Hilton no longer has any 9/6 JOB VP machines and is dealing only 66% pen in BJ I did however find a BJ game elsewhere with a dealer dealing 94% penetration. Oh was it ever so fun :) Trump Plaza now has those horrid $1 BJ games with the .25 ante. Max bet is $10!!!
Apparently there are no shortage of ploppies because I couldn't even stop my OWN FRIEND from playing there despite explaining to him why it was such a horrible deal. I think ploppies are more scared of the variance than the actual HE.

Nice report. If you're really interested in playing VP at Hilton, they have full-pay Triple Bonus with a slightly lower HE than JoB.

The pen is there if you look long enough. Every once in a while you'll catch a dealer cutting under a deck, and you know what to do. I don't know what they think they're doing with those ante games. It's not going to balance their books, for sure.

Is the change in the VP at the Hilton new? I was there two weeks ago and found a few 9/6 quarter machines up against a wall. That was the first time I'd been there for years, so I have no idea how many they used to have.

I love how the casinos have managed to find a game that appeals to people who hate varience but still love to gamble....

Can someone fill me in on video poker and why its so awesome? I thought we played blackjack here? Is that 100.03% ROI better than blackjack for a reason Im not aware of? Blackjack is pretty boring, it woudl be cool to take a break and play some video poker if I could get something out of it.

Not sure what the other folks on here do, but I play it because it's a cheap way of staying on mailing lists for free rooms, and cashback, etc. can make it positive EV as well.

Yes, VP is a useful tool to generate offers and cast yourself as a machine player in the eyes of their marketing and management. You'll occasionally get machine freerolls so every AP should at least know how to play VP.

Be forewarned though that the variance is huge and unlike slots it is addictive as hell for an intelligent person and many very good AP's have gotten hypnotized and dropped too much money in it. If you don't believe me, go to the free VP game on the Foxwoods site and try it.

I play some VP when EV is positive - but interested to know why do you think it's addictive ? Any more so than blackjack ?

If an AP and only plays when EV is positive (factoring in cover, if you believe in it, as EV), is there any reason they would start dropping money on VP and not on, say, slots ? Or craps ?

The problem with VP is you can get a lot of hands per hour, you control the pace, and unlike slots or craps it requires you to use your brain. It's kind of like a challenging video game. Guys of a certain age can remember going through a roll of quarters at the video arcade without even noticing it until they were down to their last quarter. I'm not talking about a gambling addiction per se because the exact same thing happens on games that have nothing to do with money. It's an addiction to the mental stimulation of gaming that the much slower pace of BJ doesn't lend itself to.

Yes the change is new. They used to have 2 or 3 9/6 machines remaining and have since changed those into 8/5.
