Im home, rested, and Im now ready to tell all about my trip to Las Vegas.

It all started one night, i was talking about goign to vegas in the chat room, and i quickly assessed the situation to be right before chrostmass, I had 16,000 dollars, no work till xmass, and the slowest and best time of the year to goto vegas. Putting all of that into play I immediately decided to bid on airline tickets for tomorrow through priceline.com At ~830pm the bid won, and my flight was for the next day at 230pm which left me 15 hours to sleep, pack, and plan.

I packed a single roller case to take with me all around town and posted in the las vegas section here to gather info, I got lots of info and it was very helpfull. Thanks a lot guys.

I arived at las vegas airport at around 630pm, and I started making calls to the casinos to try and get a free room after talkign about all the cash i "had just won" in ac, that doesnt work, so dont try it. I took a cab from the airport to mgm, and was there in no time, i marched through the hotel lobby, and immediately began assaulting a 6d s17 table where i won 1800 bucks in about 15 mins and attained my first las vegas players card, not wantign to take ANY CHANCES on my first day, i colored up immediately started playing games like craps, and TCP on my newly created players card, then I marched outside by where the lion thing was, at the time, i stayed and looked for the lions for about 10 minutes before i called it a scam since there was obviously no lions in the lion habitat.

I found myself on las vegas boulevard confused as to how to cross the street to goto tropicana, eventually i figured out the network of excalators and such and made my way to trop, where i didnt play, then NYNY, where i also didnt play, then montecarlo, where i played for a bit, then I went to Aria, now somebody had said aria is sharp so I tried to find the dumbest looking PC to introduce myself to, I bought in, and started playing stacks of green chips, aventually I had 3x300 in play (in an attampt to get a free room) I had a few drinks at this point and was legitamately hammered cause i hadnt eaten since before the flight, so hammered I decided I could get away with splitting tens right in front of the PC who laughed, and as luck woudl have it, i actually drew the card that otherwise woudl have made the dealer 21 so i got really excited ina drunken stupor and it was perfect cover. The pc told me to talk to the host about the room. After I colored up several 1k chips, i was directed to the host, we talked and he explained how I only had 45 minutes of play with an average of 60 dollars, I got really mad about that cause I know i played more than a 60 dollar average and i was also reallyd runk, so I whipped my brick of hundreds onto the table with a big thud 15,000 dollars in cash, i told him the story about how i won it in AC and how i need a room cause i just got off the plane. That plan didnt work either :( so i stormed off in a drunken rage and cashed my chips.

I crossed the street and scoped out planet hollywood, where I got pretty depressed about the 6:5 tables and NO GOOD GAMES at all, however, when i came out i foudn the bus terminal and learned it went downtown, a place where the fabled "el cortez" exhists where not only coudl i get a cheap room, but also a great game was to be found there.. I boarded the bus with my 5 dollar bill and away I went.

I got off the bus and looked around to assess my surroundings, and there it was, accross the street not too far away, off we went me and my wheely case. Upon entering, I had thoughts about how it was even possible to make a casino smaller than the AC hilton, but they pulled it off. I walked up and found the fabled DD s17 table and was horrified to find a 5 dollar min. I tried to buy in for a marginal amount of 200 dollars. I played for a bit and started pushing in stacks of red to not look too abnormal, over time, i was payed green, then black. When I started playing black the heat came pouring on me. So I tried to color up 2200 in black and found they had no purples in the tray  so i pulled them back and staretd talking playing one black at a time since its all I had while talking to the other players a lot this is where i met "jebchgo" who is now a forum member here. Now wihtout getting into detail, 5 minutes later I saw the PC watchign the table, and I saw a TC of 9 and I didnt knwo what to do. In hindsighty, i think it woudl have been correct to sit out a hand, and then place a big bet, but what actually happened was....a bet close to table max which was immediately pushed back to me, and I was told not to play blackjack anymore :whip: there it was...on day one, 5 hours into my trip: first backoff I played it off pretty well, and I eneded up returning no probs on diff shifts.

I walked down fremont street and after scoping to find no exploitable games, i hit up
4 queens------------------------->backoff
frusterated, I decided to find a cheap motel and reassess my plan of attack. In hindsight, blackchips dont work well downtown

Day two

I decided to hit the rest of downtown since I was there, I played evcerywhere no problem, winning and losing, I got some free lunch at the golden nugget, and later that day, I scored a free room at mainstreet station after a power nap, I took the bus back to the strip where i hit up mandalay bay. I was playing for a while when....while playing 3x 150 dollars...the PC walked up aroudn the table to my side, and knelt down next to me...
....
"My NAME"... he says
....
I got you three nights in our hotel for you you can go upto the lobby anytime if you would like to stay here.

Im like SCORE! first event that has gone according to plan. I played a bit longer, and asked for a comp to the buffet, which I also got.

Days 3 4....? ( I lost track fo time) went uneventfully, mostly, I played all aroudn town winning and losing. I didnt pay anythgin for food for the whole trip so far. I got two more free nights at MGM, then two more at NYNY.

I happened to get off the buss accross from Circus Circus where I saw a sign that said BJ pays 2:1, so im thinking, lemme walk in here and investigate, upon entering, I see a sign at the end of a pit that reads "Blackjack party pit BJ pays 2:1 select times, min $10" SO I approached a bj table and inquired where the dealer told me, yes only when you get a BJ, so I asked is it this table, and he said yes. I sat down and started flat betting decent bets. I enede up playing 2 shoes before I finally got a BJ, and you know what happened? they payed me 3:2

Now let me tell you how extremely pissed I was about this, because at this time, I was officially being swindled, I asked directly to the dealer if BJ payed 2:1 as the sign in the pit stated and he said yes, this was the very same dealer that payed me 3:2, I called the floor over, and plead my case, and they didnt want to pay me, I showed him the sign IN THE PIT and he said it was advertising for another pit, so im like IT SAYS BJ PARTY PIT! and its in this PIT and theres no sign on the table to say what BJ pays and I had totally unravelled their scam. This is one of those times, where you guys woudl be like.... "I would have called gaming" well I had ten days here so you bet your ass I called gaming, I pointed out the sign in the pit, and I pointed out the lack of signage on the table, and I explained how I directly asked two different dealers and they both said it payed 2:1 I filled out forms and showed the agent everything I could.

I was pissed off mostly cause I lost money while getting conned but In an act of vengance I counted down their DD games which wer ein the REAL party pit, won a bunch of money, then when the lights came flashing and BJ really did pay 2:1 I hit it with a 150 dollar bet, all in all, my stay at this casinos was proffitable so after making DAMN SURE I got that free buffet, i stormed out and continued assaulting the town.

day ???? dec 15th I went to the openign day of the Cosmopolitan!!!! after 30 minutes of playing I immediately posted my observations via blackberry to the forums here...+1 for technology. I sat down and played ruthlessly at the same table for about 3 hours, apparently I played too aggressive and scared away another counter at my table, and I got backed off the next day I came to play there, so is it possible I was the first player to be backed off at cosmo?

The next day, I got backed off at flamingo, then the next day I got backed off and barred from Ceasars.

I played carefully at MGM properties untill my free rooms were used, then they pulled my comps cause I wasnt playing enough mostly because I took a huge hit to my bank and was no longer dropping 150-200 dollar bets.

Before I left, the last day I hit up the gold and silver pawn shop from that tv show in the history channel, and it was packed, I felt like a total tourist, which I was, I stayed the last ngiht in the same cheap motel I stayed in on the first night, and then flew home in time for xmass.

Vegas kicked ass, I had a lot of fun these are some things Iv learned
-No black chips downtown
-High limit DD is not for rookies
-The bus is the best way around town.
-There are a lot of card counters floating around and most of them suck

The double decker buses called "the deuce" are a great way to get from the strip to freemont and back. A $7 ticket gets you unlimited rides for 24hrs. It can be slow, because of all the stops.

Funny Post

But what I find rather ironic is Ferret's comment that other counters he saw in Las Vegas were poor players. Very ironic indeed in light of the way he played the town. BTW, I may well have been the other counter at your table at the Cosmo who left. I don't know if it was you or not but I do recall leaving a table thinking to myself "this moron will get both of us escorted out to the strip. He must be a Vegas newbie and wannabe." No offense intended if that was you. I hope you learned from your experience and I wish you good cards for the remainder of your blackjack career.

May all the dealer BJ's occur when you have 16

Your story was very entertaining. What I am interested in is (1) what were the most successful ploys/moves/strategies you used, and (2) what were the reasons for your ultimate losses-- Were they bad play? Were they avoidable? Were they just bad variance? What would you do differently next time?

If I read between the lines in Ferret's recollection, I understand that he meant "weak" as in not playing a strong enough game to win big. He's from AC where you can get away with huge spreads on a very temporary basis.

I have observed the same thing in LV and to further that, a truly good counter in LV would be virtually undetectable.

May you get all the blackjacks and never a 16!

Also:

May your first three cards add up to 21.

May all your splits be double downs and may all your double downs be winners.

May you never get a stiff (at cards).

Talking about other counters, I saw a lot of people hitting shoe games with 5 to one spreads and not putting it into play as if they were still playing DD, I also saw sdoddmddebddody spreading 8:1 on a h17 8d with no surrender. These are the guys I'm talking about.

I played really aggressive because I don't plan on coming back for a long time, so I really didn't care much, I took a wham bam thank you maam approach to many stores, while others I played more cover by locating aces and dropping bets at negetive ev counts, opposition betting at low limit dd yeilding stupid huge spreads, changing number of hands to change bet sizes, flipping coins to decide play actions

ZG, I had no plan other than to get comped rooms and food and play bj

I lost money 150 to 200 at a time when the dealer pulled 21 a lot. Got lots of pushes etcIt wasn't likely to happen so many times but it did, and I ended up losing like 1000 here 1500 there over and over shoe after shoe over a few days. All I could do was place bets but it just wasn't my week.

A 5:1 spread is perfectly acceptable if you are playing for comp and such.

Small spread doesn't necessarily mean bad counter, it may just mean that it is a recreational activity for them and they do not wish to use large spreads.

Now I have seen a lot of bad counters, and most of them use large spreads. They also completely misuse index play. Refuse to DD 10 vs dealer 7 at TC -2, that sort of stuff.

The COMEBACK

Ferret,

I loved the report. It was fun reading and I could feel myself there. Sorting out the entire trip and your play will be a challenge. You sure have some balls!

When the smoke clears, your exciting romp through Vegas should be evaluated in detail as to any mistakes you can identify and correct. It is normal to make excuses, but so history does not repeat, the pain of sorting the wrong moves has to be met head on. I, for one, would love to hear session details.

Your trip may have enough info to teach 101 Vegas. The special APs here could help sort out some down falls of the trip. Then your next trip report will be “THE COMEBACK”.

May it happen soon.

Babe

I don't see any problem with this at all. As a matter of fact, I took a similar approach once at FW, where I expected it to be my final trip there, ever. I spread from 1x25 to 2x500. My mistake was deciding to go back

The "deuce" is very 'tourist'. It is very slow due to the many stops along the strip. The same $7 pass (or any pass for that matter) can be used on the SDX line (strip/downtown express) formally called the ACE, or gold line, which makes fewer stops along the strip and gets downtown much quicker.

For travel only along the strip area, next to walking, which is my favorite mode of transportaion, the monorail is pretty efficent. Locals only pay $1 per trip, so if you have friends/family or know someone with Nevada Id, get them to buy some local tickets for ya.

Thanks KJ. I was not aware of sdx. I've been to lv about 30 times in the past 2 yrs, but was unaware. I think the monorail doesn't go all the way to freemont. I think you have to transfer to a bus for the last bit. The deuce is slow, but can be better than walking at times. I don't mind the touristy part of the deuce. At times can be entertaining..

In and out the strip casinos

These type of routes are when going from one casino to another on the strip or downtown. And lets not forget parking freely. The reason i ask these routes help to make money and stay out of crowded traffic. :):) KJ whats up man you are the inside man?
