Over The Top @ TI

So, I'm playing grave at TI in the higher limit pit and this euro hotty joins the table and we are getting along great for 30min or so when the count goes monster and I place two max.

The dealer shows 5 or 6, my new table partner is good with her own rather large bet, and my first hand is 10s and before I place my second bet to split the dealer passes right to my hard 7 and hits me with 10.

Now I'm gonna show euro doll who's da man!

Stop. Where was my hand signal? Dealer calls PC. "Sir is that what you want to do, split 10s?" "Hell yes," I say. Beauty is instantly perturbed, so is main boss as he steps in and adamantly tells dealer "He splits 10s, understand" He splits 10s!" as he looks at me funny.

Dealer moves 10 to my first split 10 and I resplit - I get something like 18 and 19 on the first two, then an Ace on the final 10 and I double and I hear beauty say disdainfully, "Oh geezus." I take a hit on my second hand and the dealer promptly proceeds to make 21.

Euro doll knocks her drink over splashing a bit on me and gets up as she loudly proclaims "assh*le!" and storms off! z:laugh:g

How many decades of experience do I need before I can laugh about hands like that?

Isn't TI the New Frontier or the New Binions of the Strip?

I have played TI HL before and what a nasty sweatshop they are. An unfortunate case where MGM selling off a property has degraded the games atleast heatwise.

I wish I can laugh at such hands! Wait a sec..I would rather not have such results and not split 10s at a heat factory on the LV Strip,no less.

Waugh

I dont recall, i only played 3 shoes before they started shuffling, I played so many games i just dont remember all the details except, i sat in seat 3, and the drink i ordered was realllly good, it strangely came in a martini glass even though it wasnt a martini, and the waitress was hott, and they shuffled on me so i left after a bit.

21forme: apparently you can do 3 at the maximum before they shuffle :eyepatch:

You remembered everything except the most important thing. zg

I thought my cover was somehow still intact because the pit and SB chided me over my ridiculous grandstand play for another 2 hours. And I schmoozed the next night for a comp for two at the Italian cafe (best veal chop parmigiana in the world).

As we were leaving the restaurant the host caught me (never got tapped by a host before) and said he had some bad news - "The casino manager told me to tell you that you can't play anymore blackjack here." Then he smiled and said, "I guess that's not the first time you've heard that?" I cracked him up when replied that it "wasn't even the first nor the last time I would hear it here at TI!" zg

My story took place about 8 years ago. But I do not disagree with you. zg

Ps - Steve are you related to Irving Waugh who started the Grand Ole Opry?

As I have mentioned before, most counters are way too shy about splitting 10s. zg

Agreed 100%. Another thing to consider... if other players see you making money splitting 10s, that could make ten splitting become more common, and less of a flag! Many times I get a player response of "I didn't know you could do that!"

A few counters have suggested that its becomming more popular among ploppies.
For ploppies - splitting 10s against 3-6 is STILL a +EV play, so why not? zg

I can see it now: "ZENGRIFTER'S SECRET SYSTEM ON HOW TO WIN AT BLACKJACK!" where you go on to describe how the key to winning every session, every time, is splitting 10's against a dealer's low card!:joker::joker:

Some ideas for ZG's secret system book:

1. Never play CSM's
2. Always split tens.
3. Complain when the dealer cuts off anything more than a deck on a 6-deck shoe.
4. Play DD often and spread your bets 50:1.
5. Flip over tables offering 6:5.
6. Surrender all stiff hands (use it or lose it!)
7. Learn BS for soft 18 and soft doubling.
8. Accuse the casino of cheating when they plug their discard tray.
