Why?!

So the count gets to +24 with 4 decks to go. I'm pushing out my max bet x 2 and the guy at first base lands BJs and 20s all night, whereas I get stuck with pairs of stiff after stiff. It was an absolutely HORRENDOUS night! One doubling opportunity on an 11, and I draw the one low card of a string of face cards! And all on a night I introduced a new player to the BJ scene, mortified that our session BR was slowly disappearing in front of us. She was almost ready to call it quits then and there!

It's great to have her on the team. She makes friends at any table she walks up to, blending in so easily. At least she's resilient!

I had a similar occurrence a few years ago. I was trying to entice a friend and potential teammate with ap bj. I located a slug that was 1.5d thick that had 10 extra 10's and 6 extra aces in it and told him to watch this. I wonged in, fired away and got murdered through the entire slug. Dealer had either 20 or bj every hand! I got one bj and a bunch of stiffs. My friend to this day still brings it up from time to time, we laugh about it, and I can't convince him that I had an advantage and that such a small sampling with a small edge means nothing. His loss!

You will remember your worst night. Mine is like this:

True count reached +4, so I bet 12 units. It is not like I did not get good hands. But if I got 19, then dealer drew cards to 20. If I got 20, the dealer drew cards to 21. The few good hands are those I pushed at 20 or 21. I did not won one single hand! People began to leave. The once full tables now became table of three. I think it is good because I would play more hands at high count. Then true count reached +7, I had my max bet. The dealer ended the shoe with two blackjack, a 5 cards 21, then another BJ. I pushed one and lost three in the end. The worst of all is that I had to leave, because you can't drop from max bet to min bet.

some People will never believe that AP is real.
A college buddy told me that he would Watch me play blackjack but if I wasn't winning in the first hour, then i was bullshizzing him on being good at bj. He did not understand the concept of sample size

I have had opposite luck however, when bringing spectators. I brought my dad to a casino and I won 120 units in front of him in about 3 shoes. Needless to say, he has borrowed my bj books since then. That's why I wanted to know about gorilla and BP play in earlier threads.

I will never play in front of a friend or relative. The downswings are so vicious, and the advantage so imperceptible, that I have no idea what I would be showing them that's of any use.

I have a black sense of humor, so I actually find a corrosive sort of amusement in going through:

  • Long stretches with few double downs
  • Getting lots of double downs in high counts and losing nearly all of them
  • Making large gains during neutral counts, only to kiss them goodbye as the count rises
  • Mass quantities of stiffs during high counts

Taking a girl to the BJ table is like taking a girl to a remote place on a hilltop with a battery-powered AM radio with protruding wires.

Drive the ground wire into the ground, attach the antenna to the insulating pole and start scanning.

Then you hear a sound and you start grinning. "Hear that? It's WOWO! Pretty cool, huh?"

"What, all I hear is a lot of static."

"Well of course, all of that is coming from the atmosphere, which produces a lot of energy at this frequency. That station is 600 miles away, but we can still get it here with this receiver. Listen, there's a local car dealer commercial. That's how I can prove I heard it when I send in my reception report."

"You're not going to kill me up here, are you?"

And if she only knew how safe she was with you! But certain things are only meant to be appreciated by certain people, and I don't believe that can be readily changed.

Showtime!

I have had it go either way quite a few times when people I know come to the table to watch me play. It's kinda funny to watch the expression on my in-laws faces when I have a big bet out in a high count and lose.

My son's joined me several times. He likes to play but won't take the time to make it an AP experience but does follow my lead with betting.

He's seen a few of my worst beatings, a couple of nice wins, and walked up to the table at the end of a massively profitable shoe.

sorta funny the count gets high and u wanna push $500 out there on every hand because the math says that you have an advantage...too bad the math ALSO says that you will lose more hands than you win, even in a + count.

You always lose more hands than you win. But that is not the point here. Counting is about expected return from your initial bet, not expected number of hands you win.

Had a bad night yesterday, too. Started with wonging and it went well.
After a while I got a seat and started losing. Just stiff hands, if i get 20
dealer hits to 21, if i get BJ, dealer gets 10-Ace. I lost nearly every hand in
high counts. Doubling down on 9/10 dealer wins. The ploppy at my left, who taught the whole table how to win, could not lose he just couldn´t. Every hand he won (and i busted with my stiffs) he always said "did you see that?...
did you see that?" his play was ridiculous.
The highroller on first base played as shitty as the ploppy, but he made about 26000......frustrating.

---but the math also says you will win more money! You can't spend hands.

Yeah went with a friend gambling for two days. I would regale her with tales of my card counting prowess and legendary exploits, "yeah baby, just yesterday I pushed out a x30 unit bet, no heat".

Well, I ground out a pitiful 5 unit "win" over those long two days and she won more than I did flat betting $10
