Stocks End Lower on Jobs Data
Stocks ended lower in trading today, following a dismal jobs report that showed the U.S. economy added only 18,000 jobs in the month of June. The state of Minnesota single-handedly more than wiped out this gain by shutting the government down and laying off more than 20,000 workers on July 1st. Not to mention the collateral effect of the two racetrack/card rooms being shut down because they’re regulated by a state agency.

Was bound to happen!
Watch for more governors taking the same political risks as Scott Walker in Wisconsin and John Kasich (sp.?) in Ohio did.
The public workers unions are on the way out. I find it difficult to sympathize with their greed. They brought it on themselves in the exact same way as the other unions have.

Seeing how so many people on web sites seem to worship at the alter of Ayn Rand, how was it that Atlas Shrugged was such a box office disaster?

I worship at no one's "altar" but I can certainly appreciate watching some newly elected governors having the balls to do what has been long overdue.
Now it would be nice to see a president with some "balls"!!!!!

Unions have been the salvation of the working man and the damnation of business in this country. We would be back in the dark ages without them, but we are coming close to returning to the dark ages because of them. Anyone know how we can foster the good that they do while somehow restraining them from going too far?
As for the movie, Ayn Rand, could it be that it was simply a bad movie and nothing more? I share a lot of the same values, but I did not see the movie. In fact, I have not seen a movie in a theater for more than a year now. There has been nothing that I felt compelled to spend $20 on. I can wait for the cable viewing. The last movie I saw was Avatar on IMAX, however long ago that was, and before that my mind is blank.
