Mohegan has better rules (stand on soft 17) but terrible penetration (generally 66% or less). Foxwoods hits soft 17 on all their games except the HL areas, but pen varies from okay to very good (I've seen 1 deck cut off on their 8 deck games). For APs, FW is the better game. For non-APs, Mohegan is better.

I've also found Mohegan to be slightly more generous with their comps and have better shows, if that matters to you.

Either way, to win you need to have an advantage through counting or some other form of AP. Better rules only translates to losing less in the long run if you're not using some form of advantage play.

Neither casino offers low-stakes players a very good game.

If you are a Basic Strategy recreational gambler, then Mohegan Sun is preferable.

If you are a novice Card Counter then play the 8 deckers at Foxwoods.

Just do not get the wrong idea about the CT casinos. They both suck.

Due to a change in policy about two weeks ago, there is now 85%-90% penetration in all blackjack games at Foxwoods. Most of the cuts are less than a deck and some players actually grumble if their dealer cuts at a full deck. The casino is fully aware of what they are doing and seem to feel they can get in more hands this way.

Not good enough.

We should demand a half-deck cutoff, or we walk.

They can't treat the players this way.

Paymypush,

That is great re: FW

Of course the casino will make MUCH greater profits

I suspect that they will invest more effort in backing off anyone betting black and playing smart.

I wish that I was not an official "trespass" there. <sigh>

Maybe it's time for you to invest in a good disguise.

The Newport Room has always been a little sweaty but with the extra juicy 6 deck S17 games, players can expect even more scrutiny. It would be a shame to get backed off now so proceed with caution everyone.

Yes. The game is better now with the H17 and the excellent pen than it was with S17 and average pen. You still have LS. Recommend keeping your spread reasonable and your cover solid.

And cover is not an optional part of this formula. They will still get you even if you are spreading very modestly. They are really starting to crack down ;)

Duane, is this the case primarily in the HL room or are they cracking down in the FW as a whole?

Can anyone else confirm PaymyPush's review of the penetration changes in the last couple of weeks, to up to 1 deck being cut-off for the 8 Deckers?

They have always watched the HL room very closely. I assume that hasn't changed. They are watching everywhere now.

Just after July 4th, a memo came down from the top to anyone having anything to do with blackjack. It stated that only one deck will be cut from all BJ games including the 6 decks.

I went to Foxwoods this morning and did the leg work that I felt was needed to provide the most accurate and up to date conditions. I observed about 2 dozen of the 8 deck shoes between the Rainmaker, Pequot and MGM Grand Casinos. I saw only a few cuts at 1 deck, the rest were less with some approaching a half deck.

There were 5 or 6 tables working in the Newport Room and 2 in the MGM High Limit Room. Every single cut was as close to 1 deck as possible. These games are being very closely watched by experienced pit personnel. There are no dual rates in these rooms.

The felts in the MGM High Limit Room are H17 but they will stay on soft 17 if a player asks. Believe it or not some dealers actually ask the players if they want S17 or H17. I'd love to hear some of those answers!

Casinos love to experiment, tweak and try new things, but once the blackjack profits increase this will probably become the norm. Are you listening Mohegan Sun?

Thanks for the info, this is an interesting development, not unlike what I remember MgeeM (LV) doing a couple of years ago with their 8D/H17. This will undoubtedly lead to higher casino profits from table games. Mohegan would be well advised to watch this closely.

Heat has always been notable in the HL rooms, and I suspect it is somewhat higher than usual on the main floors. But it remains to be seen how much they really hawk these regular games, given the amount of effort required to do so. It may still take fairly aggressive play (or an unlucky observation) to get yourself banned.

Always interested in anecdotal data on this and people's experiences. Any memos to the staff about game protection?? ;)

When do I have to give my answer? So if the dealer rolls a soft 17, do I have an option of telling him "Stop right there" or "Keep trying?"

Funny story- I heard a criminal dealer in Reno (Cal-Neva, of course) convince a table that he has an option of hitting or standing on soft 17, depending on how many players he has beat.
