Good investment opportunity??

As many of you probably know, there is a new .xxx domain suffix that is going to be available soon. Just as there was a "land rush" back in the mid '90s for popular domain names, I would imagine there would be one for this too. Do you think it's worth it to invest in some domain names with the hope of flipping it down the road for a profit?

anyway, prolly not a good idea. first, it's an additional domain ext. meaning there was a gold rush back in the day for Tomcruise.com, because only .coms existed. Now porn sites have the option to use .com, .xxx, .biz, whatever.

second, I'm sure porn sites are also aware of the new domain, and they will be jumping on it along with the squatters.

besides, most porn sites like using clever adjectives, or double entendres. It's not hard(see I just used one!!) to come up with a new one. somebody take my chickenandporn.xxx domain???? I'll just use pornandchicken.xxx, or even chickenandporn.com.

the goldrush of .com squatting came more from reserving proper nouns of big stars like tom cruise and what not. I guess some people were taking up and comers(again! with the word play!) and registering their names before they really made it big(wow, I just can't stop!) I still think it's no good as porn stars and up comers always use a stage name, and even then, they sometimes use multiple stage names. Whitney wonders is AKA Lotta Tops. also, porn stars rarely stay in the biz longer than a few months to a few years. it's a tough demeaning job, and there's a lot of drugs involved as well as danger that some women answered casting calls to very shady operations leading to a beating or death.

Yahoo will get you for yahoo.xxx That's incontrovertible cybersquatting and it doesn't fly, could even get you into a lawsuit with damages. Sort of like if you put a ex-girlfriend's name to the .xxx.

I don't really think porn is that good of a business opportunity anymore. There is so much available on free and ad-supported sites, I don't think many people pay for it anymore. Name something you want that you can't get for free.

I owned a domain name back in the ramp-up phase of the Dot-com bubble. The domain name contains the name of a common cooking condiment.

I understand since I sold it, the ownership changed hands a number of times.

On my most recent visit, I discovered its now a niche dating site for "mature men of ample means" and "younger ladies looking for financial security".

Yeah, porn is not a good enterprise to be in anymore. I know a guy that's done a bunch of porn sites, and they're pissed because of all the free stuff out there today. That, and it's pretty immoral if you ask me...
