what do you do when, you are in the middle of responding to some member in some thread and the thread disappears, so yah go to send the member a private message in response, and you find the member doesn't accept private messages?
ahh well, it's not really that private, so i'll try this..........

woke up this morning, started to respond to a question that you directed to me in the 'did yah ever wake up and find" thread. the thread disappeared even as i was responding.
that's ok, i was finding it a difficult question to answer anyway, lol.

Thanks for the note. There was a recent article in the NYTimes that talked about the growing number of places people can get messages: multiple phone numbers, with separate phone-mails, multiple e-mail addresses, texting, other instant messaging services, etc. The result is that people miss messages. The problem with that, is the people sending them don’t know they have been missed, and get pissed when they receive no response. This is one of the reasons I tell people that I won’t see their posts. It is also why I have PMs turned off. I have two forums of my own, making three possible PM inboxes.

Oddly, the increase in methods of communication can result in less communication. So, I try to concentrate my personal and business communication in e-mail. Post responses also go to my e-mail. Blog responses go to my e-mail. For business, meeting announcements are received by my e-mail system and automatically appear in my calendar. I have programs I developed that look for certain market movements and send me e-mail alerts. I am also changing my phone-mail so that the messages are converted and sent to my e-mail. Yesterday, I received 67 e-mails, not counting SPAM. All my e-mails go to the same inbox, and I can organize and search past communications in one convenient spot.

Basically, I’m a lazy guy. I automate everything I can to increase my free time.

Can happen. But, I can't remember the last time I actually lost an e-mail. SPAM is an awful problem. I keep three levels of SPAM. The most obvious is completely deleted. The almost definite SPAM, goes into a mailbox that I don't look at unless someone says an e-mail was sent that I didn't get. Normal SPAM goes to an inbox that I read twice a day. And yes, I find false positives there.
