They do host all the national pool tournaments, the APA, the BCA, and others. The tourneys fill their hotel a good part of the year.

Their blackjack games are not totally hateful.

Back in the golden years of the mid 70s the Riv was one of the few 2D strip games: s17, DAS, RSA, LS, 80% pene, and a shufflecard - when they hit the card they would re-shuffle with the cards still in play on the table. What a game! zg

The place was paid off years ago, they don't have much overhead and don't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a month providing free entertainment to tourists who never spend a dime in their casino, unlike Mirage and TI

Credit where credit is due--they've actually been spiffing up the casino nicely. Whether or not they'll be able to attract more customers remains to be seen. If they handle marketing well, the Riv could actually be one of the more attractive hotels in town for the budget-minded, and should be helped by the closure of the Sahara. I'll take it over Circus Jerkus any day.

They beat the Hilton across the street, where last time I played it was no DD after splitting.

I found this shop quite playable last time I was there. No one ever in there either, which made it even better.
