I heard this morning that they are to close Wednesday (July 5) if a settlement is not reached on the budget in NJ. It's a power play GN. I'll be surprised if they stay closed very long if at all.

As of right now,it certainly looks like the casinos will shut down 8am weds.,laying off some 20,000 workers. It is a temporary matter until the state budget can get worked out.Problem is that without a budget, the state must lay off all the Casino Control Board people and the casinos can't operate without oversite. What really sucks is that the casinos pay the salary of these people anyway.

Default I don't believe it

I doubt they will ever close those casinos. They're too lucrative and that part of the state is too weak for Democrats for them to risk annoying the lowlifes in AC.

The casinos are caught in the middle of a budget battle. The Gaming Commission folks who scoop off the state% are not considered "essential" so they had to stop working. Court requests for exemption failed. They closed as of 8AM Wednesday. Wouldnt you know I had a bus trip scheduled .

My prediction on how this will play out:

Governor and legislature will continue to debate the sales tax increase and how to use the extra $ for a couple of more days. In the meantime, the legistaure will pass something that declares the casino and lottery system workers "essential." That way they can go back to work, the state gets the $1 million +/day from the casinos and the $2 million from the lottery and I get my rescheduled trip on Saturday. All will be happy.

Any bets that I'm right?
