Kinky Friedman to Media: Be Our Pollster
Candidate Asks Media Outlets to Conduct Independent Polls on Governor's Race

AUSTIN, Texas -- July 7, 2006 -- Independent gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman today issued a challenge to Texas media outlets.

He called on Texas radio stations, newspapers, blogs and television stations to conduct their own independent polls during the month of July and report their findings to his campaign.

"If Texans want to know how I'm polling, they should look at polls that invite all Texans to vote," Friedman explained. "Scientific polls screen out the unlikely voters, and they mean even less in a three- or four-person race. Polls historically underestimate a viable independent candidate. I will win this race because I will bring an unprecedented number of unlikely voters to the polls this November 7."

Friedman, who has led in eight recent polls sponsored by media outlets across Texas, believes informal, non-traditional polls reflect the mood of the state better than scientific polls.
"I'm asking media outlets to take the pollster challenge, and report back to us," Friedman said. "Maybe it's a coincidence with the polls we've seen, but a few more of these will lead us to one conclusion: the average Texas voter is checking the box next to my name on Election Day."

Eight recent polls conducted by media outlets between March and July 2006 include the following:

Lone Star Times (Houston)
Total votes: 945
May 2006
Kinky - 61% (577 votes)
Perry - 20% (190 votes)

As for President, I think I'll write-in Joe Walsh...AGAIN! He actually did run for President back in 1980 or something like that. I don't think that he'd run again though. He might win!
