Pair Side Bets

I am wondering about the odds of the pair side bet. I know some casinos have the mixed/color/perfect pair side bet, but at the one I play at has 11 to 1 pay on any pair, period. Ive checked wizard of odds and other sites, but I can't find a clear answer. I'm sure the odds are not good like most side bets, so I don't play it but of course I see a bunch of people hitting it like crazy and getting rich (temporarily). Also I can't imagine there is a way of knowing a way to count and take advantage of this like some other side bets. Maybe if the count is really high or low, it would raise your chances of getting a pair?

Anyway, if anyone has the info, can calculate the odds or knows a link, please tell, thanks.

Unless I'm missing something-Whatever your first card is,your second card will be one of thirteen. So,the chances of it matching your first card would be 1in 13.Over the long haul, you'd win less chips on winning matchs than you'd lose on non-matching hands.

So you get paid 11:1 on any pair? There's no bonus for suited or anything else? You're right that the odds are not good. It is probably beatable but it would be tough and possibly not very profitable. The exact odds will depend on how many decks are used.

I've seen this also, however any two "tens" counts as a pair. So the odds are a little different to calculate....hmmm....

but rest asured if the casino is offering the bet, they're doing it to make money!!

Any tens count as a pair?
So you get 11-1 payout whenever you get a 20,and get 11-1 on any other pair,as well? Somethings not right with this.

I agree. It sounds very lucrative if this is the case.

You get a ten valued card 4/13 times,so roughly 30% of the time.
You'll get another ten 4/13 times,16 out of 169 hands, you'll recieve an 11-1 payout.Plus all the other pair payouts.

The numbers above assume that only "exact" pairs win the bet (King,King and 10,10 but not 10,King). The adjusted numbers for the "any ten value card" rule change are:

1 deck = 57.47%
2 deck = 67.59%
4 deck = 72.58%
6 deck = 74.23%
8 deck = 75.05%

Obviously that rule is too good to be true. :(

Only with a hard 20, not a soft 20 (A,9). Still, that's a lot of twenties!

I agree. This is definitely too good to be true.

If I am reading the odds that miplet posted above for 8 decks, there is an approximate 10% advantage for the house? Also I can't believe that any ten would pair for 11 to 1 odds at any casino. They would be giving money away. Heck, a 20 would pay more than 7x a blackjack would, LOL.

That's right, and they get even worse when you use less decks! This side bet is often called Dare Any Pair. I've seen several variaions on the Pair bet before like Pair Square and Perfect Pair, but nothing as bad as this. :yikes:
