previously i read a post in which it was stated that having a ring or bracelet that could focus on the dealers hole card would constitute illegal play.
i've noticed that some casinos have their own objects sitting on the blackjack table that are shinny and if you peer into them at the right angle it give a decent view of the dealers cards. would looking for the dealer's hole card under such circumstances be considered illegal or cheating?
what if you moved the position of the object so as to get a better angle?

If the item is already sitting on the table and was put there by the casino, there's no legal problem using it. On the other hand, positioning it yourself probably crosses the legal boundary.

yeah, well heh, heh the other day i was at this joint and i was absent mindedly fooling around with said item when i noticed the reflection of the dealers cards. it kind of scared me a bit to be honest. when i realized the implications of what i could do i put the thing down right away. it provided a fairly clear view.

so i guess the legal point is you can't manipulate a device in order to glean information about the cards.

I once got a 3-d "star" from Harrah$ in one of their player's club promo boxes. It was pretty cool. Convex on both surfaces and if you placed it on a chip, you could spin it and it has so little drag that it would spin for a long time. The thing was, it was very shinny brass but not so shinny that it could be used as a "shiner". However, at one of the local casinos that I play in KC, the pit boss came over and looked at it and finally decided that I wasn't worth prosecuting and told me that I had to keep it off the felt.
