Default Private Table Intrusion

My wife and I went to the casino last night and we went to a table with two men already there. We sat down, and one fellow said, "You can sit, although this is a private table." My wife courteously said, "Oh, I'm sorry!" but I just laid my money down, indicating that I didn't care.

The dealer didn't say anything and there wasn't a sign that said "Private Table." The men were cool about it and didn't really mind, but said, "It's polite to ask, that's all."

So what's the deal? Was I rude? Do I have to approach every seemingly available table now and sheepishly ask, "Sorry to bother you, sire, but I was hoping maybe us derelicts could also play?"

heh, heh the possibilities are endless with this one.
could have been one or two counters there wanting to hog a positive shoe.
could have been two ploppies not wanting you to mess up the flow of the cards.
you could play this how you want in such a way to enhance your cover.
a casino can set up a private table that you could only enter by asking permission otherwise if there is not a no-mid entry sign you should be able to just jump in regardless of your fellow table mates objections.

best regards,
mr fr0g :D

yeah like sage said, there are so many variables. Me, I believe in treating nice people with respect and rude people with indifference. If someone is rude, swears like a sailor, blames the dealer incessantly, etc. then I'll jump without so much even noticing if they are talking to me. If they seem like nice folks I give them some courtesy. Regardless, I will jump in a good shoe.

Default Get a marker and make a sign!

Often when a casino has no high limit area or some other area for their "favored or special" players, they will reserve a table for that player upon request. A little sign should be put on the table saying reserved or private and then there is no confusion.
