If you thought poker cheats were a thing of the past, think again, Carl Sampson recently visited a certain casino in the north of England and found the place crawling with them.
The warmth of the casino was a welcome relief from the cold night air and the overall ambience of the place made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in – pretty receptionists, paintings on the walls… Of course, all this is a deliberate ploy to put you at ease so you will be more inclined to gamble with your hard-earned money, but I wasn’t here for roulette or craps; I was here for one purpose only: to play poker. And poker is business, plain and simple.
The cardroom, situated off to the right on a slightly elevated platform, seemed homely – hardly the place you would imagine predators to lurk, but this place was crawling with them. You see, if you think that modern poker is a game played on the level by respectable gentlemen, you are in serious need of a reality-check. Welcome to the world of the poker cheat; the world of the “Wolf Pack”.
The term describes them adequately because they hunt in packs and select vulnerable, isolated targets on which to prey. “Flood tubes one and four; open outer doors; range to target one thousand metres... FIRE!” Chipstack after chipstack sunk without trace. They show no mercy and take no prisoners. They want your money and they have the weapons at their disposal to get it.
