Biloxi before and after Katrina?

There has been a lot of discussion about the Gulf coast since Katrina. Most of these discussions focus on the current gaming conditions. Which are not that bad, BUT.... as shown in this article (from 2001)...

http://www.casino.com/blackjack/article.asp?id=329 (Archive copy)

the conditions for gaming pre-Katrina were definitely better. All the $1, $2 and $3 shoe games no longer exist. :( The DD pitch games for $5 and $10 are extinct.

Will these conditions ever return?
When will these conditions ever return?
Will these low min games just become a thing of the past. Once consumed by inflation...never to be returned?
Have the casinos seen that they can survive without them?
Is there even a remote chance that competition can prevail and these games can return?

Going to try again!

I still have several days/nights free in Biloxi for this month. I have made my plans to return next week. Made my reservations today for a three day trip. Still have enough to go again the last week of the month. Gotta see how this trip does before making eom plans.
I have already received some of November's coupon comps.
But, I am still waiting for the rest to arrive to see if the competition helps to improve things.

Any else get coupon comps by mail from Biloxi?
Notice any differences or improvements?

I thought I'd seen the worst!

Three trips ago I got murdered in Biloxi...:whip:
No need to drag it on, nor am I trying to share my missery.....
But this trip was worse.:yikes:
We took a $1,600.00 bankroll for four days and lost the whole thing.:violin:
I had more winning sessions at DD BJ than losing sessions. The losing sessions at craps was what killed me. But I had a good time and that was what I went for. I bet we earned an incredible amount of comp time.

Island View Casino visit

avs21, in previous threads you mention going to IVC in Gulfport. I went this past week. They have a nice place. Small, but sufficient. I found the table gaming area to be bit small and crowded, but I was told that this is only temporary, as they are adding on a metal building that will more that double their current casino floor space. They had several shoe games that appeared to be eight decks. They had two SD games where BJ pays 6:5 with very limited splits and doubles and with no surrender. There was at least one DD game. It had a $25 min and had what I call good rules.
BJ pays 3:2, Dealer stands on 17, Double any two, Double after split, etc.
It was nice enough that I would return.

Was it crappy pen like the majority of Biloxi DD games? Did they allow mid deck entry? Thank You for the reports it has been really helpful deciding wether or not to play in Biloxi area

mid deck entry

IVC had no mid deck entry on the/a SD game, but the dealer and the players offered to allow me in, not strictly enforced. The DD did offer mid deck. I just don't remember seeing it posted.
The penetration was not fantastic. The dealers cut free hand. Most of them cut by eye and cut off half the deck or a little less. The only casino that does not cut by eye was Beau Rivage. The dicard tray has a notch or groove cut on the side. After the "hand" shuffle the dealer places the (two) decks in the discard tray and puts the cutoff card in by rolling it through the groove, giving the exact same penetration every time. About a deck or a little less cut off once again.

Sounds like best game so far with allowing Mid deck entry on DD game.:D

I remember when...

I can still remember when Treasure Bay had $3.00 min double deck pitch, with all the "good rules". That was just before Katrina. They still have not re-opened their table games. Even though the number of casinos is not back up to what it was pre-Katrina, and the number of players that have returned has plateaued, it amazed me to see some of the casinos (Isle for example) dilute the rules of their blackjack games. They recently changed the double any two cards to only double 10 and 11, and some other changes that ruin the game. It would seem to me that they would want to stay competitive with the likes of Beau Rivage and others who have maintained the good rules for DD pitch. Not far down the road is Island View who I think has added DD pitch with $15.00 min. Not sure of the current rules and conditions there. I have not been in the area for several months. I am going this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They beat me soooo bad last trip and cleaned out my bankroll. I have just replenished it and have decided to go back again and start over. I will let you know what games I find there now.

Biloxi update, some bad, sum good!

Some bad....lost!
Sum good....Casinos and games doing well!
Well I went to Biloxi this past week. I lost again. Nothing accomplished by boring you with or sharing a negative experience! All I will say is that just like one of my other posts, THE CARDS JUST WEREN’T THERE! The few times I did get a positive count, and increased my bets, the blackjacks and twenties came as expected, but the dealer or another player got them. ENUF!
The casinos I visited on this trip were Island View in Gulfport, then in Biloxi I was at the Beau Rivage, Isle of Capri, Imperial Palace and Boomtown. I didn’t have time to go to the Palace, The Grand or Treasure Bay.
Island View had DD pitch with $25 min, BJ pays 3:2, ins. pays 2:1, dealer stands on 17, double any two, double after split, no surrender, re-splitting allowed except with aces. They had two of these tables open the whole time. When it slowed down, they remained open. They do not have a high limit room, so when a high better arrived, one of the tables was converted to min $200, max $3,000 and security would stand close by. They also had one or two single deck games but both paid BJ at 6:5, so I never checked the rest of the rules. They also had several tables with 6 or 8 deck shoes. The shoe games were $5 and $10 min, BJ paid 3:2, ins. pays 2:1, dealer stands on 17, double any two, etc., same as above. What I call all the good rules, except for no surrender. The wait staff and the dealers were very friendly. They have an enormous construction project underway (outback) that will be an addition to the existing casino. The expansion is a long way from being complete but should more than double the current casino. The newly remodeled rooms are real nice with big flat screen, HD televisions. The phone system is a computerized Cysco system that is extremely nice, for what its worth! The buffet was below average. I’ve heard only good things about their buffet so I will try it again next trip.
Beau Rivage was the same as last trip. They had between five and ten tables with DD pitch with $25 min. All the same rules as above. Again, what I call all the good rules. They had a separate pit for their CSM games, Circus games, and 6:5 SD games. I didn’t check the rules or conditions for these games. In another pit they had plenty of 6 or 8 deck shoe games with $5, $10, $15 and $25 min. They were mostly 3:2 and good rules also. I used their comp chips this trip and found them to be a disappointment. Here is why, and how… I would use a $25 comp chip for a bet, single hand, if I won, I received a $25 chip for the win and the dealer took the comp chip. There was no chip for chip and then the win as most casinos do with comp chips or coupons. Also the chip was good for only one bet, win or lose, where most casinos allow you to let the comp chip ride until you lose! I used the remaining chips on very high counts and hoped for a black jack so I could at least get the 3:2. Never happened. Have not checked their rooms out yet, so no report. I plan on using comps next month to see Imaginaya and to get some rooms. I’ll report on the rooms then. There buffet and the café were both excellent.
The Isle of Capri in past visits has been very crowded and for good reason. They had good games and a wonderful staff, not to mention good comps, a good buffet, GREAT restaurant, and good rooms. The last report I made from Isle the new casino manager had diluted some of the game rules. Bad decision, it ran the players off, the place was empty. The good rules on the games have been put back in place and maybe even improved upon. The DD pitch pays 3:2, ins. pays 2:1, and all the good rules from above. The table min when it was slow was $15 (WOW). I hope for their sake the players return and that too much damage hasn’t been done. I hope the players return, but not to fast, that way I have more time to take advantage of a good game at a good min. The rest of the games are much the same as before. The 6 or 8 deck shoes have all the good rules and plenty of $5 and $10 min tables. They have one single deck table that is 6:5, $25 min.
Imperial Palace has not changed a thing. They had $25 min DD pitch with all the good rules. They had plenty of $5, $10 and $15 min 6 or 8 deck shoe games with all the good rules. The buffet was good as usual. Before Katrina they couldn’t give away the food at their buffet, but now it is about the best in Biloxi.
Boomtown also has not changed a thing. They still have their one table with DD pitch for $25 min and all the good rules. They have a bunch of circus games and few more that I didn’t check out. They do still have a few $5 and $10 min 6 or 8 deck shoes, all the good rules.
Hope this is useful!!
