About the rules...

Hey you all! This is my first post.

Is it common that if the player and dealer tie (for example 18 vs. 18) then the bank wins?? I think that kind of sucks...

That's a rule you'll generally only find in charity games, or games where both of the dealer cards are dealt face up (Double Exposure).

As you might expect, it's a brutal rule for the player, adding 9% to the house edge. If you see this rule, run the other way, clutching your bankroll.

I understand that some games in Sweden have a version of this atrocious rule, and ties on 17, 18 and 19 are losses.

Yes, I did notice it is bad for you.

This rule is also used in Finland, which is bad since I live here :( I'm only able to play when traveling...oh well...such is life.

In Sweden the government set the rules for all casinos. In this case 17, 18, 19 ties are won by the dealer. The official reason is that not as many people should become addicted to gambling this way. The only casinos that don't have to use this rule are the ones run by the government itself. So it rather seems that the government just don't want the competition...

That is a riot. The government says, in essence, "We don't want people gambling, so we'll make it so that they get hosed when they do. That'll teach 'em." It would probably be enough to keep me away from the tables.

Unfortunatly most Swedes don't know of any other rules. They actually think this is the way the game is supposed to be. And when it comes to knowing how bad the odds really are, they don't have a clue.
