Aliases used in Casinos for Card Counting Purposes

Does anyone know what the typical way is to get an alias? I read in these blackjack books that the authors typically used various aliases when they were playing blackjack in the casino. I was just curious: what is the typical way to get an alias - seems like a dumb question, but I am somewhat interested being a counter myself...
