Old question: I am thinking of switching to a new system, which is best for me?

New twist: 1) I have scoured this site to answer my question before starting a new thread. 2) I have been counting for over a year now and know how to count, use bs, and bet accordingly in the casino. 3) Done a lot of book reading.

While I am relatively new, I have put in the time, and don't mind putting in more to do this right. In fact, like most newbies I tried to get rich without the proper bankroll. So now, I am playing only in tournements until I will have a reasonable br built. In the meantime, I want to improve.

I use ko preferred right now, and was hoping to stay with an unbalanced count. During my reading, this is some of what I found:

The best "unbalanced" (ie, 'non-TC') system is a level-2 called UBZ -Unbalanced ZEN - and it performs on par with WongHalves. zg

What about unbalanced counts? While they are certainly easier, and they will win the money, I find them too limiting for one reason. They don't automatically give you an idea of how big your edge is at any given time. For that lack of precision, you get to ignore true count conversion. It's a valid trade-off, but one I just don't care for personally.

I've never used KO but I have used BRH-1 which is a level 3 unbalanced count. In a shoe game the errors caused by the unbalance can become pretty severe, especially in a game with deep pen which is what we're always looking for anyway.

I have the UstonSS book. Not worth close to what it used to sell for. I agree with zg that ubz2 is better.

Point blank, what I've seen this in practice as meaning is that especially with a 6-deck shoe game, you will be well into the deck before the unbalanced count get's high enough to bet on. For example, in the simple Rookie K-O system, Your Intial Running Count is -20 for 6-deck shoes. You are at your Key Count when you reach -4. You will have to see 16 more low cards than high cards before you know you have enough of an edge to put your larger bet on the table. You will miss good opportunities to get money on the table in situations that a true count might send up the green light for you! In the mean time, you are betting flat at the minimum. But, it's better than nothin'!

I was hoping to stick with an unbalanced count, I have been thinking about UBZII, Uston SS, and BHR-1. 2 and 3 level counts do not bother me, with practice will come ease. I also do not care about the amount of indexes, won't be varying the games much without a much increased bankroll.

I am playing 6 deck shoe games, DOA, DAS, Resplitt Aces (1 cardunless Ace)
H17. BJ 3:2

Most of the 2D games are actually harder to beat, so I stick with 6D shoes.

Thinking about biting the bullet and going balanced, but...I like it being simple. Additional thoughts?

Do what you feel is best for you, if you'd rather be balanced, go that way, if you'd rather stick with unbalanced.. go for it

I am learning the MEntor count in the back of Blackjack Bluebook. It is a good system and almost dead similar to Zen, except in a few places.

Again, do what you think is best for you and your bank roll... but the most important question you should ask yourself is...

Is the system I am using winning or losing for me?
