Default Hurricane aftermath

I just wanted to post a note explaining that I won't be checking in much here for a while. My family is safe, and we're actually temporarily staying in Tunica. Our home in Hattiesburg is intact, which is quite remarkable considering that we lost about 30 large trees around the house. Most of the houses in our neighborhood suffered damage from trees through the roof, but we were lucky.

While our house is OK, conditions there are tough, with no power and no water. I expect it will be weeks before power is restored. I don't know exactly when I'm headed back in to the area, but don't be surprised if I'm not around to answer posts for a while.

My situation is really much better than I could ever hope for under the circumstances, and my heart goes out to the hundreds of thousands of people whose situations are much more dire. I'll be back in communication when I can.

Ken, it's a relief to hear from you. As I watched the developing catastrophy, you were in my thoughts....directly north of Biloxy. Unbelievable you escaped the severe damage so many endured. Take care of yourself Ken and we'll look forward to your return.

Ken, I talked to some guys yesterday who just drove back from Hattiesburg. They said that power had been restored to the USM campus. They have 70% of the people here back on. We got ours back last night. It is good to hear that you and yours came through as well as could be hoped for.

Woohoo! We have power! Crews from Nebraska are in our neighborhood, and we had power for a few hours last night, it's on now, and we're expecting permanent restoral of service by tomorrow night.

Life is good, and getting better every day.

I remember having been trained for a potential flood in our area...I can't even begin to imagine Katrina. I'm glad your family is safe and our thoughts are shared with prayers for all those involved.

Progress is being made! Is "power" ALL that you are having to endure? I mean no property damage? I hope you didn't have 43 deer and beef frozen in a deep freeze!

Hi Ken,
Glad everything is well with you. It is hard to imagine the gulf coast without any casinos. I am a lifelong Pete Fountain fan and enjoy going to the Magic Casino in Bay St. Louis to see him play. I am now afraid that Katrina may well end his live performances. By the way your boys from Hattiesburg are playing my boys in Tuscaloosa tonight. Southern Miss always gives us a hard time and a great game. Good luck tonight and I hope you can return home soon.
Russell
