Default Catastrophic Military Defeat In Iraq?

US Could Face Catastrophic Military Defeat In Iraq
What Baker And Hamilton Forgot

By Webster G. Tarpley
12-17-6

"Amateurs talk strategy; professionals talk logistics." -- Gen. Omar Bradley
Washington, DC, December 16, 2005 -- The flawed assessment offered by the Baker-Hamilton report neglects a crucial aspect of the political-military situation of the US and other foreign armed forces in Iraq: the danger that the US army of occupation might be cut off, encircled, and annihilated as a fighting force over the next few months. This flaw in turn makes it easier for Baker-Hamilton to reject a priori the one rational response to the current reality, which is the extrication of US forces before it is too late. We do not need a new way forward in Iraq; we require a speedy way out of Iraq.

Sorry, but that is little more than wild unsupportable bullcrap.
The only reason the Mahdi army exists is that it hides amongst the civillian population. Were it to attempt a movement into the called for hedge hog defense,it would be caught out in the open and carpet-bombed out of existence.

The ONLY thing I agree about that article is this - ...we need a speedy way out!

the American public lacks the willpower necessary to win because unlike "Charlie" the new enemy hides not among jungles but in schools and hospitals and orphanages.

Unless we do to Baghdad what we did to Germany in WWII and Hiroshima we can never win. We lack the guts/fortitude to carpet bomb cities and kill women and children.

No civil war in Iraq will be the end result - the question is who do we back and how long will we allow our brave young men & women to stand in harms way?

As far a a pincer move the reason Iran is so terrified of US occupation in Iraq is that with a base in Iraq and Afganistan we could launch an offensive against Iran! If Patton were President maybe - in today's world never happen. Thank God

The Mahdi army could be taken out during morning prayers, or evening prayers, Or better yet, every time they engage with the U.S forces, they are defeated or run and hide.

Military defeat, my arse. Talk to a soldier the has done a tour in Sadar City, they will let you know whats up.

Powell's pronouncement below indicates that Tarpley is not far off. zg

Powell Says U.S. Army `About Broken' Because of Iraq

By Paul Basken and Nadine Elsibai

Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Former Secretary of State Colin Powell said the U.S. Army is ``about broken'' from the Iraq conflict and cast doubt on whether the military could or should boost the number of troops in the country.

``There really are no additional troops'' to send, Powell said on CBS's
