K-O question
I'm reading "knockout Blackjak", and have just begun learning to count with the K-O system. On the chapter for optimum betting strategy, it says to use a 1-10 bet spread, with a ramp of 6. I understand a 1-10 bet spread means one to ten units, but I'm not clear on the books definition of what a ramp of 6 means. Could someone help a beginner by explaining in simple terms what the ramp means?
Thanks.

Sorry, I'm afraid that I do not. You'll have to turn to the counters who frequent the forum for that. My experience with KO is limited to the "Rookie" system.

from my understanding when your count gives you an advatage of 1% you bet the ramp of 6 units. The remaining 7-10 units are only to be played when you advantge increases more than 1%.
Because in most shoes games you rarely get an advantage far greater than 1%, the 7-10 betting units (reserve) are there for when it happens. But realisticly your betting spread is just 1-6 units, cause its rare that you'll get such an advantage that calls for you to use your remaining 4 units i.e. 7-10.
This is what I assue the ramp 6 means, but I could be wrong.

I would say that is not correct. I came home 2 min ago from Vegas and I played several hours 6 deck games at Luxor, NY-NY and TI.
I got several times counts higher than 35 and I start at +5 to count when I play 6 decks.
I would say 75 to 85 % of all my high bets were successful this time!

y0u may be right but the original question was regarding an 8 deck specifically (1-10 spread, 6 ramp)
I'll be honest, I 've never counted an 8 deck game considering most of the casinos near by are CSM's so whats the point. But from my readings, getting higher than a 1% advantage in an 8 deck shoe does not happen often.
thanks for the info though regarding where some 6 deck games were on the strip, I could'nt find any

I talked to an dealer at Luxor, he said they changed all to 8 decks but a lot of people didn't wanna play that anymore (hopfully that will also happen with 6:5-****). They changed it back to 6 decks which I like better, as well.
Btw: I think single deck is more dangerous than multideck (til 6 decks) because I just got bad hands since I started playing single deck. I can barrely belive that Thorpe and co. made millions with single deck games. I mean I never saw more 21's and BJ's on dealer's side! In multideck games dealers get way less BJ's and 21's!
Is that just the fluctuation or does other people belive and see (saw) the same thing happen?

I do not believe that your observations are incorrect up to a point. With Single Deck, I do believe that you should see more Blackjacks....but you should be getting your share of them too! That's been my experience with that particular game and I admit that that experience is limited to two casinos (El Cortez and 4-Queens.) My game of choice is double deck when I can find reasonable rules.

by any chance did you notice any other casinos that have 6 deck shoes besides the ones you mention. I was just in vegas and I thought I did a pretty search but I couldn't find any. Another thing, what were the tables minimums for these 6 deck shoes? and how was the pen rate?

I just went to those casinos I mentioned. All these 6 deck games had a minimum of 10 bucks!
