Default The GOP's $3 Billion Moon Machine

The GOP's $3 Billion Propaganda Organ

By Robert Parry (A Special Report)
December 27, 2006

The American Right achieved its political dominance in Washington over the past quarter century with the help of more than $3 billion spent by Korean cult leader Sun Myung Moon on a daily propaganda organ, the Washington Times, according to a 21-year veteran of the newspaper.

George Archibald, who describes himself “as the first reporter hired at the Washington Times outside the founding group” and author of a commemorative book on the Times’ first two decades, has now joined a long line of disillusioned conservative writers who departed and warned the public about extremism within the newspaper.

Excerpts -

-- In 2004, Moon was given space in the Senate’s Dirksen building for a coronation of himself as “savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent.” [See The Hill, June 22, 2004]

-- In this post-war period, Moon, who had been raised within a Christian sect, moved to southern Korea and joined a mystical religious group called Israel Suo-won. The group preached the imminent arrival of a Korean Messiah and practiced a strange sexual ritual called “pikarume,” in which ministers purified women through sexual intercourse, the so-called “blessing of the womb.”

-- At the center of Moon’s theology was a new twist to the Old Testament story about the Fall of Man. Instead of biting into a forbidden apple, Eve copulated with Satan and then passed on the sin by having sex with Adam.

-- Thousands of years later, God sent Jesus to restore man to his original purity, Moon taught. But Jesus failed because he was betrayed by the Jews and died before he could father any sinless children.

-- Sex, therefore, remained at the center of Moon’s theology, the need for a Messiah to purify the human race through the reversal of the contamination caused by Satan’s seduction of Eve.

-- Moon taught that the failure of Jesus to begin this purification process by fathering children forced God to send a second Messiah, who turned out to be Moon himself. Moon saw his task as starting this sexual purification process and thus establishing God’s Kingdom on Earth.

Who Is Rev. Moon? 'Returning Lord,' 'Messiah,' Publisher of the Washington Times

By John Gorenfeld, PoliPoint Press
Posted on March 15, 2008

The following is an adapted excerpt from John Gorenfeld's "Bad Moon Rising: How Reverend Moon Created the Washington Times, Seduced the Religious Right, and Built an American Kingdom" (Polipoint Press, 2008). The video at the right is from a 1997 Washington Times party where Moon said he founded the newspaper to save the world. In it, he also demands that his employees rid the world of "free sex," meaning sexual intercourse beyond the purifying influence of his mass weddings.
Bad Moon Rising takes you into the underbelly of the Religious Right. Which is surprisingly, scandalously entwined with Moon and his business empire--an untold chapter in American political history.
The grand absurdity is that Moon has become a major patron of conservative politics. And from his seat of respect, he is launching odd, multi-million dollar campaigns of his own to replace Jesus (whom he considers a failure), and attack the wall between church and state...his church, that is.
There's more. The Chicago Tribune has reported that he controls the U.S. sushi industry. He manufactures heavy industry, does business with Kim Jong-Il. And he now officially considers himself Emperor of the Universe, claiming the imagined endorsements of dead U.S. presidents.

The King of Peace, the Lord of the Fourth Israel, the Messiah, they called him now -- and the publisher of the Washington Times. Though over a dozen congressmen attended his pageant, no one spoke a word of it to the press, not at first. By the time the secret was out, and ABC News was broadcasting the strange sights, it was three months later -- summertime-and school was coming soon to the States. Soon grand parade marshals would drive teen queens and their bouquets around football fields, and the helmets of varsity teams would crash through banners. And homecoming would not be so different, insisted the two hapless congressmen, from the Reverend Moon's rites, which had become a scandal.

"There are moments that best play straight," CNN anchor Aaron Brown said after I discovered the pageant. "So here goes. Lawmakers welcome a guy to Congress -- and the messiah shows up."

Default Let the Rites Begin!

Gee, if I started a new religion I think I would do the same thing. Free sex is wrong, except for me, because I must fulfill my messianic mission of establishing a new race of men free from sin by having sexual intercourse with every virgin in the flock. Yeah! That's my new religion. Any young virgins out there want to join the true faith? All the rest of you bums kindly send me all the money you can. This is going to be bigger than Catholicism and Islam combined. I think I'll call it Aslanism. Followers of Aslan, bring forth your daughters to the altar. Let the rites begin!

Aslanism is the religion of Narnia. Apparently The Narnia lion was Aslan -
------------
Narnian Christianity
From The Chronicles of Narnia Wiki
Narnian Christianity, Aslanic Christianity, or perhaps known to the Narnians themselves simply as Aslanism, was the official religion of the Kingdom of Narnia.
Narnian Christianity taught that Aslan, the Great Lion, was the savior (the Christ), son of the Emperor-Over-The-Sea. It practiced Aslan's teachings and believed in his rule over the whole Narnian World. Aslanic Christians always looked out not to commit the seven sins: gluttony, pride, anger, greed, laziness, envy, and lust.
The religion of some form of Christianity in Narnia was initially the way Narnians seemed to worship Aslan, and was confirmed by the Narnian's tradition of celebrating their greatest holiday, Christmas, the central Christian feast.
Narnia's neighbor Archenland's official religion may have also been Aslanic Christianity due to the rulers being related to the royal family of the rulers of Narnia.

Deep inside Rev. Moon -
From -Nov. 1, 2002 issue of Executive Intelligence Review:
As reported in the Oct. 25 issue of EIR ("Democrats Now Venture to the Dark Side of the Moon"), from the early 1980s onward, the Asian and South American dirty-money and rogue intelligence apparatus centered around the deranged personality of Rev. Sun Myung Moon, spent hundreds of millions of dollars to buy up the entire so-called "Christian Right" in America. This started with the William F. Buckley Jr.-linked Richard Viguerie, the so-called wizard of direct mail solicitation, who found himself bankrupt, circa 1987.
Col. Bo Hi Pak—the controller of the Moon apparatus, a founder of the South Korean KCIA, and South Korean military attaché in Washington—paid $10 million to Viguerie, via the purchase of a piece of Northern Virginia commercial real estate worth a fraction of the "purchase price."
By 1994, the Moonies had bailed out the self-professed Christian Zionist, Rev. Jerry Falwell, whose "Elmer Gantry" lifestyle had bankrupted his Lynchburg, Virginia Liberty University, and bilked his own followers out of $73 million. The Moonies bought up Falwell's debt for pennies on the dollar, effectively morphing the pudgy televangelist into a grinning prop for Moon's alphabet soup of front groups.
Before the dawn of the 1990s, every significant name on the Christian Right—Pat Robertson, Tim and Beverly LaHaye, Gary Bauer, James Dobson, Robert Schuller—had been taken over by Moon and turned into even bigger con artists than they had been before they went grovelling for narco-dollars.
The main question for the Christian Right was, and still is: What was more embarrassing—having to associate with a stark-raving lunatic who proclaimed that Jesus Christ had failed in his mission, and that God had anointed Moon as the actual "King of Kings," the "True Parent" of a new master race; or, knowing that they were being bought off by offshore dirty money, much of it linked to international narco-terrorism?

What was the "buy off?" I mean, the article says the Christian right was being "bought off." Bought off from doing what? Taking money from whatever source has never seemed to be a problem for practically anyone--politicians, educators, preachers, lawyers--you name it. But I've never heard any of the televangelists, phony or straight, praise the Reverend Moon or uphold any of his thoughts or teachings.

Forgive my ignorance, but what specifically did Falwell have to do that propped up Moon's front groups. I'm losing the translation somewhere here, and no, I'm not an apologist for Falwell. Far from it. Do you mean that simply by bailing him out, this lent credibility to the groups that did it? If so, I'm not sure I agree. There attempt to become legitimate in the eyes of the public seems transparent enough. If, however, Falwell declined denouncement of their theology on the basis of favors rendered, then that is something to chew on.
