Is 6:5 for BJ the future in Reno?

Downtown Reno is turning into the devil's playground. I have seen "Blackjack pays 6:5" spread like a cancer. More and more tables in the downtown area are converting to this. I could not belive my eyes when I walked into The Silver Legacy two weeks ago. Almost 50% of their BJ tables on a Saturday night were "Blackjack pays 6:5". Downtown Reno is turning into a bad bet. I will not give a casino my money when they have a BJ game at 6:5.

My question is... is the game of REAL Blackjack going to disappear from downtown Reno for good? Save your money and don't even go to downtown Reno. If you are in the Reno area go to casinos away from downtown. Or go to Sparks or Boomtown.

isorry if this sounds dumb but what is the diffrence between 6:5 and 3:2. and why does it put it in the casinos favor?

If you place a $5 bet and get a blackjack, you will be paid $7.50 at 3:2. If it pays 6:5, you only get $6.00 for your $5 bet. On the average, players will get a natural around every 21 hands. That gives the casino quite an advantage in what is just barely a negative expectation game.

The demographics of the average casino player in Vegas/Reno appears to be turning more to the casual player/ tourist/ conference attendee who could care less about one little rule change (in their eyes) if they know about it at all. They ain't gonna holler about it.

But, since a real 3:2 BJ payout is important to card counter success overall, you might grant yourself suspicion as a card counter if you protest you won't play 6:5 tables. Apparently, casinos haven't gotten much heat for the rule change evident from the rapid spread of 6:5 tables.

There are dozens of non-card counters per one card-counter. So a card-counter protests. The casino thinks, "Why should we give a d*** about this guy? Let's give his seat to this other fine looking (but clueless) tourist here." A casino in Vegas or Reno changes all tables to 6:5 BJ and they all still would be filled with players- maybe not with the likes of us but with the kind of players the casinos want- losers. The advertising for Vegas/Nevada tourism guarantees fresh new recruits (albeit short-term) for every card-counter lost.

The average visitor to the Nevada cities (or elsewhere) needs to be informed about the secret that casinos don't want them knowing about: their 6:5 Blackjacks are now paying for those free drinks/buffets.

It's coming to be the "norm" in Vegas and many other places that Single Deck games are 6:5. There are (thankfully) exceptions, but they are hard to find.

I will go on to say that when it starts becomming difficult to find 3:2 on the other BJ tables (DD and M-deck)...well, that's when I'll take up RC off-roading as a passtime instead of BJ!
