Just passing word not to bother with Harrah's in Cherokee, NC.

First and foremost: It is ALL digital. Absolutely no way to shuffle track.

I asked how many decks it used. They claimed 6. DAS, No surrender, No resplit aces. S17.

When I finally got adealer who could answer the question, I found out the 3 decks are actually dealt out before shuffle.

I counted how many hands on average were played per shuffle. I counted 6 rounds played with only 2 other players at the table. I doubt this hit the 3 decks he claimed.

The table minimums are too high. The lowest I usually see has been $15. A couple times $5, but usually nothing lower than $15.

They have another game called "blackjack bonanza" the difference is there is a sidebet for getting dealt a matching suited pair and the dealer has a matching card to go with it. Pays out $10000.

Same deck, same rules but h17. I think the dealer said there was also no DAS. So because of a really poor sidebet option they give themselves more of an advantage.

Overall strikes me as a greedy casino judging by various other games I looked at (i.e. paytables on video poker.)

Also, it's a pain in the ass to get to.

I think its the laws for table games in NC that cause the casinos to have games that suck.
i believe you are correct. in the case of Cherokee i heard there is a law that dis-allows playing for money with cards. so the way they get around it is using these digital tables.

I was there a few years ago in my pre-counting days, not to gamble, but that's where we stayed when we went to Great Smokey Mtn Natl Park. I played some BJ and did pretty well. Luck of the variance!

They do have some strange rules (state-mandated.) The "cards" are digital. Another wacky thing is those under 21 are not even allowed to walk through the casino. What that meant is 2 of the restaurants in the hotel were off-limits to kids, because the only entrance was through the casino (and they where nothing fancy where you wouldn't want kids.) How dumb is that?

OTOH, it is a beautiful hotel, and I'd recommend it if you want to visit the Natl Park. Beats staying in honky tonk Gatlinburg, IMO. About a month after the trip, I got a letter from them offering me a 3 day comp. They must be hurting!

When is the best time to find the LOWEST table minimums. Was considering a weekend trip there, but now I'm having second thoughts. Since I only know BS, I've only played $5 or $10 minimums. Using just BS, I can usually last pretty long just flat betting $5.

I can only go on the weekend and chose Cherokee because it's the closest. I'm in GA near Atlanta.

Thanks for any advice.

I moved from Knoxville about 6 months ago and my last time at Cherokee was on a Sunday afternoon...there was only 2 $10 tables open, but there was also a $10 gimmick table--Roundup or something. If I remember correctly, $10 is the lowest they go, and that may require patience or going on off-times.

Another thing, they only let you double on 10, 11 and I can't remember about DAS. Make sure you go through the hotel part--there is some nice Native American art and architecture.

good luck

I am from Chattanooga, and I will never go to Cherokee again. The closest place for us is Pearl River in Philadelpthia Miss. There they have plenty of 5.00 minimum 6 deck shoe games, and 10.00 minimum 2 deck hand held with good rules. I can leave home @ 5:00 Am and be at the Casino Buffet while they are still serving breakfast.

$5.00 tables at Cherokee

I go to Cherokee fairly often and find that the comps are structured around their players card so asking for comps unless you bet big is a waste of time. Last 3-4 times I was there I noticed they had 1 $5 table(out of about 10 tables). I asked a PB about this and he said that they try to have one $5 table open all the time now.
I don't count so the Digital BJ play doesn't bother me.

Ok, have to ask, what the heck is this digital stuff all about? No cards? - you look at some display like video poker? But the dealer handles money like normal. What do u do - push a hit, stand, double button?

As to when they shuffle, I guess you're just taking somebody's word on that? Along with the number of decks too for that matter? I mean can u even tell when the cards are shuffled somehow? I guess u can, since u say u counted 6 rounds before the shuffle. What do they do - push a button? Like u say, 6 rounds with 4 people ought to be about 65 cards.

Thanks - now I know I'll stick to golf when I get to North Carolina.

Kasi - That is exactly correct. You look at a monitor built into the table. You signal hit or stay just like you would otherwise, and the dealer pushes some buttons. Chips are handled the normal way. Shuffle is announced, and you see it on your screen and hear it too. All done with push of buttons.

The digital stuff is due to some wacky NC law prohibiting card games. Any wacky law is kids are not allowed to set foot in the casino. This means 2 or the 4 restaurants are off-limits to them as the only entrance is through the casino floor. And they're not high-end restaurants that wouldn't want kids. How's that for dumb?

I was there in my pre-counting days and did quite well (it was a family vacation with Gr. Smokey Natl Park as the final destination.) Beautiful hotel. My BJ winnings paid for the trip :)

Thanks. That'd take some getting used to. Tough to hole-card :)

But, hey, if the rules were OK, and the cards random, why not.

Alot of states have slots but no tables - like u say maybe a way to get around that.
