8 deck shoe charity casino blackjack
first time poster.. avide blackjack player for about a year.. so i play at these charity casino's in ontario canada and they all offer the same game its a 8 deck shoe.. dealer stands on soft 17.. normal casino rules.. so i got two questions.. i count cards and using the one level system, damn good at it too and are currently trying to get better at the multi-level system.. so first can a 8 deck shoe be profitable when counting(they cut off about 2.5 decks) and two say when they burn the first card, that can put your count off by one and even more in the multi-level system.. how do you account for that?

The burn cards don't put your count out at all. They are just cards that you haven't seen, so consider them, rather than at the bottom of the discard pile, behind the cut card. Basically just pretend that the penetration is 2 cards less.
As to the game being beatable it is, but it would be difficult. If they are cutting off 2.5 decks, that really a lot. You want to look for a game that will give you about 75% penetration (2 decks) or better and as with any 8 deck game you are going to need a big spread to beat it. I'd suggest a 1-12 or 1-16 if you can get away with it.
On a side note, this all really depends on what the rules of the games. There are not really any 'standard' set of rules and from what i know most charity games have some 'dealer takes tie' rules.

I just played at a "charity" Las Vegas Night where dealers won a tie,but you could put up 25 cents a hand to "buy" a push if you tied the dealer.
I ended up playing Tejas Hold Em until a friend noticed they had an unbelievably obvious tell in their Nite at The Races section. We ended up winning 4 of the last 6 races(we didn't bet the other two) and collecting almost $200.The charity took its cut from the mutual pool so we didn't cost them a dime.We are going to another one next Friday to see if they are as sloppy.

Dusagree. Far better to use a 1-6 spread BUT bet zero when EV is negative. zg

I second this. Ontario Charity casinos have a max $100 bet. Chances are to get a shoe game, you're doling out at least a min $15. It's impossible to get a greater-than 1-6 spread.
Unless you actually manage to find a non-CMS $5/$100 table.

Canadian Casino's the Worst...
All casinos in Canada suck. I played at the new casino in N. Falls (Canada side) for about 1/2 hour in the high roller room. Casino Niagara? I forgot the name but it's the new casino that has all 8D min tables with H17 and CSM's. I couldn't smoke and was staying at the Redskin joint across the river so I went into the high roller room that offered a 6D, $100 min. and caught a hot shoe right off the bat. It was positive from the beginning until about half way thru shoe when I left. Made $1,100 and stayed an extra few days at Seneca N. in one of their suites. Blew it all, but I learned never to cross the border again and play in Canada.

Hey Jim,
I was at Seneca Niagara on Sat night. Maybe our paths crossed.
Casino Niagara is the Canadian one right near the bridge and has csms.
The Fallsview in N. Falls Canada http://www.fallsviewcasinoresort.com/ is the newer nicer one further from the bridge. Have not been there for a while so don't know the games, but heard they don't have CSM's. Casinos in Ontario are Govt run and no smoking started a year or two back.

Casino Niagara has 1 8 deck shoe game and 6 deck games in their high roller room ($50min). Fallsveiw has about 10 8 deck shoe games left but rarley have them all open. They have 6 deck games in their high roller room with $100 mins. Average pen is 70-75%.
