Changes at Argosy Casino

#1
Had some business in Aurora yesterday and decided to spend a little time at their casino Argosy in Lawrenceburg, IN. Basically it was a slow Monday night, they had about 4-5 half full $5 tables on the 2nd deck, and $10 min tables on the 3rd level and above. Since I’m from Louisville (and Caesars in Elizabeth, IN is the closest casino with $10 min tables only, H17 – yes this sucks - 6D DAS LS Peek) I was excited to see the $5 tables.

However on closer inspection, I found they’re now using continuous shufflers on these and only these tables. Upstairs at the $10 tables, they’re still shuffling by hand, using 6-deck shoes. Played for a couple hours on the cont. shuffler $5, did well with lady luck and BS, and went back this morning to check things out. Same situation on the 2nd deck, and as expected $5 tables (in the morning) on the 3rd deck and with hand shuffled 6D shoes.

Just for anyone who’s interested they play 6D, S17, DAS, Peek, and Casino Surrender on some tables. They’ve only been using the continuous shufflers for about a week now, dealers are on the fence and most of the players are not happy as expected.

Thanks for the info...I'm planning on visiting some family in Cinci around Easter, and I'm sure Dad will want to go to Argosy. He's a slot guy, so I can't really count on him to give me the low down on the BJ tables. Did you find Argosy to be a decent experience? (other than the CSM tables)

Good luck

Argosy is my home casino :). I will answer any questions you may have.

My wife told me when they installed the CSMs on the second deck. They were 8 decks but changed to the CSMS which were installed just last week.

You will find the best games to be the 6 deck shoes, but the best time to go there are when it is slow. Table minimums go up. Penetration varies, but rules are No surrender. DAS, DOA, split 3 times.

The double deck game is moderately playable. The penetration is horrid and no DAS, No Resplitting of any pairs. No surrender. Double on 10 and 11 only. $25 minimum is the lowest you will find.

There is good news, though. Argosy is working to get a bigger boat so we might see some better games show up there.

If you play poker , $1-3 No Limit is a decent game. The $2-$5 No limit has a good number of sharks.

Wow! This game is terrible! If the dealer stands on soft 17, you have to overcome a .55 house edge, if she hits here soft 17 your looking at .75
With "horrid" pen I would doubt this game is beatable.

Good info...are there many $10 minimum tables in busy times for the 6D shoes?

Thanks

1) Double deck game is shit. I won't play it. The dealer STANDs on soft 17. The only player favorable rule besides the # of decks.

2) 6d $10 tables will disappear and go up around $15 or $25 when things get busy. There will still be $10 table(s) most likely, but then tend to be so long in line. You would MAYBE be able to start at the top of a shufle and then wong out when the count goes to shit. Other than that forget about wonging. Your best bet is to not play when it is busy. Besides, when it is busy the place is a madhouse and there is literally hardly anywhere to stand.

It's like a casino mosh pit.

I'd rather pass on the mosh pits these days, but it'll probably be up to pops on that one. We used to go down to Grand Vic when I used to live in Ohio for some decent craps games--do you head over there any for BJ?

I occasionaly play double deck at Grand Vic. I refuse to play their other 21 tables. I am actually keeping a log because something seems off about that casino to me.

And the poker room sucks.

I haven't been to Grand Vic in years, but if I remember correctly--the poker "room" was just kind of a partitioned-off area? Bad BJ games at Grand Vic, eh? Well, I appreciate the info on Argosy. I moved away from Ohio about 6 years ago and haven't been around the boats there in over 2 years, so I'm somewhat excited to go back for at least nostalgic value...taking back some dough sure won't hurt either.

Good luck
