I'm currentlly reading "Playing Blackjack as a Business" by Lawrence Revere......He has an introductory counting system where you just keep track of the 5s

Just wondering if anybody is familiar with this system..........or if it is still valid .....as this is a pretty old book.

There may be something to it....don't know how much of an advantage you can gain from it but there probably is a slight gain to be had.

The most dangerous card in the deck to the house (player's advantage) is an Ace. The most dangerous card in the deck to the player is a 5. If all the Aces are in the deck and all of the 5's are out of the deck, then the player has the advantage.

Like I said, it's a minor advantage, but it is of value (although limited value) for the player to know the disposition of Aces and Fives.

It might be to a players advantage to make some decisions on hitting hard hands against a dealer 10 based on the presence or absence of 5's in the deck. If not many 5's have been played, you might be more confident in hitting that stiff hand. If the fives have been fallen, that limits your probability of drawing out on a stiff hand and you might want to think about standing. That's a very close call anyway, so any information you can employ is going to be of some value!
