Ever heard of Shill

SHILL

In the game of Blackjack, the term "shill" means someone who is playing for the house. While this is certainly a practice not done everywhere, some casinos have been known to have employees play with what really was house money in order to make a table appear more crowded and hence perhaps more inviting for other players to play at. Unless shills cheat, they of course do not affect the odds at blackjack. So one could argue that the basic game odds really do not matter much if there is a shill playing at the table, or if the table is made up totally of customers.

I played once in a casino and was doing ok. Then they changed the dealer.
The dealer kept on dealing me small cards and he kept on getting face cards not once but about 9 or 10 times in a row. I couldn't believe it. I kept on playing knowing the face cards will be coming but still kept on getting the low cards dealt to me. I honestly feel that the dealer was called in by the house to take care of me. I dropped my BR 5k in less than an hour. Being stupid to realize it's not possible, had to be a bad streak. But I know somehow I was taken for a ride. I never went back to this casino LV. I'd like to tell you where it is, but I'd rather not say. I just know it's impossible to lose all your hands getting low cards all the time. I wasn't familiar with magicians pushing cards to their advantage house. This happened many years ago 7 and I hope this dealer is not dealing anymore. But I haven't returned to this specific casino. Can a dealer be a shill.. I think so...

Default Seriously??

I must say that I have read this thread and will agree with Sonny, Usually when a dealer cheats it is collusion between the dealer and a player (an agent for the dealer) but to think a Casino that makes Millions is going to send in a cooler to beat you for your small bankroll is highly unlikely. Someone mentioned that dealers get paid by commission or profit sharing...As a former dealer, boy I wish. It's more like minimum wage plus tips!! Additionally the term "Shill" is an employee that is sent to play at a table to attract business, therefore a dealer cannot be a shill and this pratice has only been used in poker rooms and as far as I know not on Blackjack, or at least I have never seen it or heard of it.

Finally, to Dopple...When I dealt cards I bent them by accident all the time, this is can happen honestly by any dealer when dealing fast, picking up, discarding, and shuffling. The one bent card will do no damage to you, and actually it benefits you cause you can cut to it. But Sonny is correct here again, If it bothers you call the floorman and he will change it out.

Yes, you are right. It's hard to imagine it. But I still have that gut feeling. The
dealer even told me to leave. I just kept on playing thinking the high cards are
coming. He would deal the low cards and then hit me with face cards when I
hit. I don't think the casino would do this but I kept on imagining magicians
knowing when to manipulate the DD cards. Maybe the dealer had it for me but
when he said maybe you should leave, and the pit just watching the dealer,
I doubt it, but I must be dreaming to see so many of these small cards being
dealt not once but consecutively and always a face card for the dealer.
My mistake, I just might be having a real bad day on this one. I think...
I love dealers and I know they work for the players. Just imagining but
enough to stay away from this one..

I see that you are new here Airfree and so am I so I won't try to hurt your feelings but as I read your posts I can't help but thinking that perhaps you were playing blackjack...not counting but just playing, ie: being a ploppy. You stated that you were "thinking" the high cards are coming? Stick around this site and you could learn quite a bit. As for the dealer telling you to leave...dealers are typically not allowed to say this but it reminds me of a story.

I was dealing a blackjack game and this regular (who was a UPS drivers and always wore his uniform at the casino) had cashed his paycheck and came to my game, he played and played but just couldnt make a hand. He was nice and had tipped me quite often, when he lost his paycheck he began to take comchecks at the cage. He subsequently lost these as well, I felt bad for him so I told him that maybe he sould call it a day. That bought me three days off and from what I heard the guy maxed his credit cards and we never saw him again...poor fool

A whole 10 times in a row? Wow! I'm being sarcastic.

I was cheated once in L.V casino playing next to a drunken pluppy who was betting 1000-2000 per hand. Double Deck.
They never substituted the dealer for the whole session lasting about more than an hour and as soon as the ploppy lost everything about 40-50 grand and left, they changed the dealer , and the PC brought a brand new deck of cards. PC told me to stick around and that with the new cards my luck will change. My instint told me otherwise and I left in hurry.
I haven't gone back to the place ever since!
