I started with Malmuth's "Theory of Poker." It covers a lot of ground and has a lot of solid information.

I'm not sure what others here on this site think about the book or if they have read it. I'm only a little ways into Arnold Snyder's book, The Poker Tournament Book, but I enjoy the analysis of the system behind hold'em tournaments. If you want to try some short tournaments or improve your skills for the later rounds of long tournaments it would be a good book to pick up. I can't see how blackjack as we know it will be around for too much longer, so I want to diversify my abilities.

depends if ur playing limit or no limit. But I have Caro's Book of Poker Tells and it was worth every penny. Unless you already are amazing at reading people, this will improve your game dramatically
