was in AC this week when they opened a new table (8 decks $10 min) guy sits down to play 3 spots. buys in for $5000. (50 bens) after dealer is done washing and dealing card he bets $10 each spot. ??? count does nothing first shoe. next shoe count starts to rise. I up my bet to $30. guy bets $10, $65, $190. count continues to rise, I bet $50. guy bets $10, $215, $385. Count continues to get better. I bet my max bet of 8 units ($75 actually) Guy bets $10, $365, $490. He continues to bet these amounts but changes the spots, saying things like "spot 2 is unlucky $10" or "spot 3 is due for a blackjack $490". at the end of the shoe, he asks to have his spots held while he goes to bathroom, scoops his chips into a coin bucket (have no idea where he got this since these are now rare in coinless AC) and leaves. Of course he drew attention from the moment he bought in for 5 grand, and 3 pit critter watched his play, laughing and even joining in on his superstitious nonsense, apparently unaware of his nearly 30-1 spread in good counts!! He didn't even give them a chance to color him up and see whether he had won or not. since they seemed to know him by name, he seems welcome to continue this style of play. I thought it was brillant. any one elses thoughts??

Either the guy was crazy, or that's one hell of a cover play. I personally admire the social approach with a twist of "erratic, superstitious gambler" in there. I lean more towards making verbal contact with the dealer & pit guy if he rolls over, so I don't seem like some intense counter whose concentration shan't be broken. But hey, I don't spread that much and don't haunt the same joints often.

Well, I've sensed some opportunity in having multiple hands of varying amounts, and experimented with it on a minor level, but this guy takes it to a new level.

Did it seem like he was intentionally betting goofball amounts as well (3 black 3 green 3 red, etc)?

most definately. his stacks usually had at 3 diffent colors. $490 = 3 blacks, 7 green, 3 red. also he kept his chips very unorganized in multicolored uneven piles. I dont knew what his act was because his bets increased the same time my bets did. Luckily I dont bet enough to draw attention. And his seemingly bizarre betting patterns didnt seem to raise any suspion either. they more or less laughed at him.
