It’s not just skilled blackjack players who incur the wrath of the casino powers-that-be. Any player that exhibits evidence of intelligent thought is subject to harassment by casinos. For example, Richard Brodie is a high-stakes player, and god knows he can afford it. As one of the original developers of the software now known as Microsoft Word, he’s got plenty of cash to spend however he would like. But, as you might guess, he’s no dummy. He knows when he has the best of it in the casino. He’s a talented poker player, and he also plays a lot of video poker, at limits that most of us can barely imagine.

Casinos lift ban against software pioneer

LAS VEGAS, June 9 (UPI) — Harrah's casinos has lifted its ban against the man who wrote the first version of Microsoft Word.Richard Brodie had written in his blog last month that the casino company had barred him from a Las Vegas poker tournament and from all of its casinos. Brodie said he was told Harrah's decided to ban him because they could not figure out how to make a profit out of me.

But the company changed its mind Friday, the New York Post reported. It's looking more and more like a big mistake, he wrote after learning he was no longer persona non grata.

Earlier, he had advised Harrah's the ban was not smart. That is potentially unsound business, he said. Lucky players get unlucky and you want them to be at your place when that happens.

Harrah's refused to comment for the Post on either the decision to ban Brodie or the one removing it.
