Default No thanks from the ploppies at my table

Playing recently at a 2 deck game, wife standing over my shoulder ready to hit the road. I say one more shoe. As fate would have it, count climbs very high and we are playing the last hand. I get two tens vs. a dealer 6, immediately split my tens to the boos and hisses of the "experts" at the table. First card is an 8 (stand on 18), second is another face, to which the table sarcastically asks if I will split again. I stand on 20. Dealer turns over a 7 hole card, turns a 10 and busts. I take my money, waiting for someone to thank me for screwing up the dealer's 21. I'm still waiting.

Did you point this out to them? And are there any new posters reading this?

my guess is that if he was dividing by a third of a deck, then the 1 face on the second split 10 was enough to make resplitting the wrong play.

As you already know, that is the way things work on a blackjack table. If the other players land up winning, they do not even know or see or want to notice and definately will not acknowledge that 8 you drew. Now, reverse things and give the dealer an 8 and you will face their wrath.
The whole thing though is ridiculous. You know you deserve no thanks because you did not know that 8 was coming out and would not deserve that wrath if things backfired either. Finally, you can take the whole thing to an extreme, some guy getting a blackjack 5 hands later might not have gotten it if you did not split your 10's during the same shoe, and he did not thank you either.

When thanked at the table I have two standard responses if I even respond.

1. Remember that one because things do not always work.

2. Don't thank me, I had no idea of what was coming out of that shoe.

I do remember i had a similar situation...

My problem was way worse than yours. I had the worst ploppy at the table.

I mean the guy was hitting on 17 ..Yes yes i know i said before that if i see such a ploppy i would get up and leave.
But the guy really wasnt hurting me. (And yes i do grasp the concept of his plays hurting me 50% or helping 50% )

this time it was on the positive end.

Any way long story short, i am helping this farm boy along and he is making some money and i am trying to teach him just the very basics of the game..(never waste time trying to teach a ploppy the full rules of the game because you will simply baffle them.)

So the count is high up and i have this huge bet out!!! The dealers upcard is a 7. The guy catches a 3,4 (he was showing me his cards so i could help him out.) he hits and gets a 6, and a 4..

Meanwhile i am glaring unbelievably at a pair of 7s with a count at about 13 and i cant believe none of us caught a 10!!!!

Now i have a bet of about 350 up (yes that was part of a stupid cover play)
and i start moaning and groaning and i say to the ploppy. "ok guy, i am about to make the stupidest play ever..I know its stupid, never ever do this..)

I split the sevens!!!! And i caught a 10 on the first one, then caught a 3 on the second one!!! I doubled it but dealer only hit me with and 8!!!

I was kinda happy because i was dead sure he had a 10 in the hole...

You wouldnt believe it, the dealer had and 8 in the hole and hit it with a 10!!!

Of course this ploppy had no concept of the stupidity of my gamble so he was high fiving me saying that was a great play man!!!(he couldnt know that i knew that i was gonna catch a 10 if i hit those double 7s..)

He just thought i was a very clever black jack player...

Meanwhile i am coloring out my chips in a rush to get out of the joint to the moans and groans from two other people who had just sat down after witnessing my unbelievably stupid play..

Thankfully, this time round, i didnt give them any rewards card. I colored up and left immediately!!

Splitting 7,7 vs. 7 is the correct play!

Yes, congrats on making the basic strategy play.

Just today, I was at third base, spread to two hands in a positive count, and the dealer busted the last couple rounds of the shoe. Ploppy lady at first base started singing my praises as soon as the table won that first hand for taking the other spot and saving the table.

To be honest, I don't think I liked it.
