Default Nostalgia/The Desert Inn

In the '70's and '80's, my father stayed and played the Desert Inn. He considered it a classy place and said it was unlike any other on the strip. It was common for them to comp his rooms and airfare several times per year. Does anyone on this forum have stories or experiences from the Desert Inn? I know it has a great history. Are there any casinos today in Las Vegas that compare to it?
