Mr. Paul is severely mistaken. Gandhi never threatened to kill anyone who attempted to arrest him. Those nutjobs in New Hampshire are terminally deluded.

I can definitely get on board with a smaller Federal government...but this guy's like another Ross Perot--gone bananas! I don't ever remember hearing about MLK or Gandhi barricading himself with a bunch of guns, but I wasn't there.

Confused. Paul wasn't referring to the Browns - his Gandhi/Heroic comment was generalized to all tax protestors, most of whom are peaceful.

Our Founding Fathers were NOT so peaceful when they protested the illegal taxation imposed by England. While shooting federal agents is not the appropriate thing to do at this time, I support those who would challenge the income tax laws as they amount to nothing more than theft and slavery, and can never be legitimate, no matter how many judges agree. zg

Fair enough...thanks for the clarification. Of course, image is reality...and he sure sounded like he was drawing that correlation.

Clarified above. Paul is the closest thing in a long time to a true Patriot candidate - eliminate the IRS, Federal Reserve, FDA, etc.

Paul is already a hero and when he loses the Republican Primary I'll expect him to be the Libertarian candidate for 2008. zg

Terminally COURAGEOUS is more accurate -

Ed and Elaine Brown Persevere
Tuesday, 26 June 2007
By Kat Kanning

Despite being surrounded by federal thugs in early June, despite tanks and helicopters around their property, despite having a friend shot at and arrested, despite having phone and electricity cut off, Ed and Elaine Brown persevere in their simple quest, asking the government to show them the law which requires them to pay federal income taxes. The federal government has been unable to show the Browns the law. Instead they have responded with violence and theft. During the early June raid on the Browns, Elaine's businessplace in West Lebanon was seized. Still, the Browns continue to stand up for their rights.
-------------
Elaine attempted to explain to reporters why they do not pay income taxes. The Browns have repeatedly asked the IRS to show them the law which requires them to pay the tax. To date, the IRS has refused to answer this simple question, either to the Browns or numerous others who have asked the same question. Elaine explained how Joe Banister while working as a Special Agent in the IRS Enforcement Division began researching claims about the lack of a law requiring people to pay an income tax. It was his intent to show these people the law, but after years of research, he failed to find a law. When he brought these findings to his superiors, he was asked to resign from the IRS. Such a law does not exist because it is forbidden by the Constitution. The Browns encourage everyone who wishes to know more about the income tax to watch Aaron Russo's movie, Freedom to Fascism (freedomtofascism.com), which is available on the internet.

The Founders were the same people who, when drafting the Constitution, deliberately gave Congress a very broad taxing power because they knew that the main reason for the failure of the Articles of Confederation was that the central government didn't have the power to tax. They were also the same people who passed the Whiskey Tax immediately after the Constitution was adopted, and a certain Founder named Washington called out the troops to put down rebellious western Pennsylvania farmers who didn't want to pay the tax.

While you and others may object to the income tax on grounds of political philosophy, it would be wrong to maintain that it's illegal. Under our legal system, it's the courts who have the final say on matters of constitutional law, unless and until they are overturned by a constitutional amendment (which has happened 3 times) or unless or until the Supreme Court reverses itself (which has happened more frequently). To continue to argue the legality of the income tax after the courts have consistently upheld it for the last 94 years is a bit like arguing that it's illegal for the States to not be permitted to have racially sergregated public facilities, regardless of what the courts say.

They've been shown the law; they just won't accept it because it conflicts with their preconceived notions of what they think the law ought to be. Incidentally, the Browns have also refused to pay their New Hampshire property taxes. Do they also believe there's no law requiring them to pay that kind of tax?

Nobody wants to pay taxes for god's sake...but those jokers are just acting like some bratty ass kids. Don't want to pay taxes like the rest of us, take your act to some third world country.
