Amnesty = anarchy?
For many years now I have steadfastly subscribed to the principle of refraining from publicly discussing religoin and politics other than sharing my opinion when asked. I would try my best to avoid such futile and often volitile confrontations like the plague. Well gentlemen, I believe that the plague has indeed finally arrived.
Being a Californian (yes, I do carry my official Jack Cash Card) and currently in exile in the Colonies , I have the opportunity to have first hand insight into this current social pandemic (AKA illegal immigration) from both coasts.
Let me go on to say here, that my observations and remarks have nothing to do with racism, on the contrary, I speak Spanish myself and was once engaged with a Mexican woman. These perceptions and views are strictly socio-demographic.
According to widely accepted statistics, there are between 12M and 20M illegals currently residing in the USA , and what used to be a "Western" issue is now spread across the land. States such as Pa., Ill, and Va are now facing the immigration demon head on. Unlike the waves of immigrants arriving at Ellis Island at the turn of the 20th Century, who, as soon as they got off the boat, began to produce a +EV to the economy, this current tidal wave is eroding the social/economic structure right off the bat. Latest word was that 11 county ER's in L.A. had to simply shut their doors. The State of California alone has been brought to its knees by this onslaught.
Meanwhile....in the sacrosanct halls of the U.S. Capitol. The erudite members of our esteemed Senate are attempting to pull off the greatest con job since Franz Josef Goebels himself! The Fuhrer would be proud. Thank God for the talk shows and the tremendous volume of calls to the Senate offices. That was the only thing that stopped these idiots at the last minute.
Now that I clearly painted a picture of this crisis, I need to first analyze what's next and perhaps come up with some realistic solutions. Being the sceptic that I turned into, I can envision the US Army/ Cal. National Guard building a base atop the Grapevine (Fort Tejon revived!) with an Atlantic Wall type installation, heavy guns pointing south down the I-5 which is now the official new International Border with Mexico. Instead of the daily body-bag count from Iraq, there will be a separate tally with fresh casualty reports from the desert as the C.B's, in attempting to complete the 2,000 mi. wall transversing the Mexican Border, are being shot at.
Hopefully, this will all turn into just a bad dream and the final outcome will be completely different from that which I envision, but right now I can foresee no happy endings.
Since this forum possesses perhaps double the IQ of the current Congress and probably 10x the ethics, I would genuinely appreciate your input as to your own thoughts.

its a real problem.
i believe those who employ these cats, should band together, and decide amongst themselves what they are going to pay. this type of an approach could slim their occupation here in the U.S.
These types have convinced themselves that their labor is indispensible, and that top pay is just not enough

Personally, I have no problem with UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS. Nor do my houseboy and housekeeper. Nor, apparently, does Bank of America who gives them checking and Visa cards.
And it is clear, regardless, that they cannot be gathered up and shipped out. zg

"Ding Dong The Bill Is Dead!"
The Senate drove a stake Thursday through President Bush's plan to legalize millions of unlawful immigrants,
likely postponing major action on immigration until after the 2008 elections.

If you enforce employer sanctions for hiring and cut off all government services to illegal immigrants a lot of them would not stay here. Only problem is the federal government is the number one employer of hiring illegal immigrants.

That's one thing regarding those who are already here IFF that's it. Eventually the economy and society will absorb, albeit painfully, the blow: however, since we're all math wizards around here, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to do the projections for 5-10 yrs. out. There were 5M Latinos in the US in 1080 and over 30M today. Why not run a sim on that and let me know the results, even without an intervening recession?
Buena suerte!!

B of A needs to change it's trademark name for their "Visa" Card. I think this is where the confusion begins. Maybe a good name for their new card would be the "Green Card". And the environmentalists would love it too!
