Pinnacle Sports

Just after Christmas, I like to look back at the many sports books I’ve patronized in the previous year and declare my personal choice for Sports Book of the Year. Despite a field of many premier books, Pinnacle Sports clearly outdistanced the competition in 2006. In fact, Pinnacle has become so dominant that I have to wonder how many of the mid-tier books will able to compete in 2007!

Pinnacle’s edges can be summarized easily. Reduced Vigorish
A typical sports bettor laying $11 to make $10 must pick 52.4% against the spread (ATS) to win money. But because of the reduced juice at Pinnacle, winning only 51.3% ATS yields a profit. As I’ve discussed in previous articles, most serious sports bettors can pick winners at higher than 51%. However, only a select few can pick winners at above 52.5%. The reality is, 98% of sports bettors lose over their lifetimes. But for many of the losers, the difference between winning and losing is razor thin—potentially as thin as 1.1%, the difference between Pinnacle’s pricing and the status quo.
