Is there a good game in Vegas anymore?
Hello,
I've been an on-and-off lurker here for quite some time, and finally decided to register. What prompted me, you ask? Two recent trips to Vegas, and the inability to find a decent game. I've heard about the 6:5 games spreading like flu and the slow proliferation of constant-shuffle tables. It wasn't until these recent trips that I got to see it first hand, though. All I can say is "Wow". And "Ouch".
I realize if there is a good game in town, you probably don't want to give it away. That's fine. I'd appreciate it, however, if someone would just tell me if they still exist. I prefer a pitch game, single- or double-deck, with a 3:2 payout. I'm a casual player who uses Hi-Lo and, frankly, has a hard time keeping count on a NASCAR-paced shoe games.
Does such a game exist in Vegas, or elsewhere in Nevada? Hell, does it exist anywhere in the US? Thanks in advance.

The pitch games in Vegas are drying up but there are a few playable ones left. Vegas can be great for shoe games though. The Reno area can be good if you can stand the heat. Places like Wendover and Mesquite are sometimes worth checking out as well. It all depends on what your skills are.

I saw there were plenty of good shoe games in Vegas. I suppose that's why I need to keep practicing. I've been using simple Hi-Lo on a casual basis for a few years now. I have no problem keeping count while engaging in some light chatter with the dealer and/or others, assuming it's a slower deal, like you find on a pitch. Once the pace picks up, I struggle to keep up without turning into a hermit.
So Reno is notorious for heat? I can't imagine there's too much heat on a 10-60 spread. Although I did get some pressure at the old San Remo a few years back playing $5 hands... what a joke!

I enjoyed playing at the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood last year before I was a counter. I do recall that they allowed splitting more than two aces, which is something I haven't seen in AC.

You will get heat at most places in Reno with a 10-60 spread. I have been backed off with a smaller spread and lower max bet. Reno area is great for low to mid stakes players. It's best place to play SD games

good pitch games in Vegas
There are 4 tables downtown with decent single deck blackjack.
There are many playable double deck games in Vegas. The better games generally are at higher limits. Mirage has a good game for $25, but there are many other games, mainly at locals casinos, where the rules are not as good but with decent pen the game is playable, and many of these can be had for $5.
Once you hit the black chip level, there are several more.
Best single deck, downtown at two places.
Best shoes, several places on the strip.
Best double deck, higher limit on the strip.
Go to bj21.com and order the latest edition of CBJN (current blackjack news) for up to date rules, pen and number of tables on all blackjack games in U.S. and Canada.

CBJN does a real good job on Vegas conditions. Certain things can not be helped though. They will list the minimum for certain games but those minimums change at many places depending upon the crowd. They will also list the number of tables but tables or pits may not always be open and a few casinos have multiple rules pits where they may have one S-17 table when slow but when busy raise limits on a few others and put a sign on the table changing it to S-17.
For areas where CBJN does not have someone reporting changes to them, they will not be up to date always. I recently gave them a change in rules that I think they did not know about at a California casino that is off the beaten path.
Now if you are looking for up to date information on the Heckowee Casino in East Podunk, Upper/Lower Slovovia with two tables that also double as the eating area for their snackbar, you might find it out dated.

Duly noted. I may be in Reno this weekend. If so, I'll start at 5-20 and see what happens.
