Default Flurry of fake new members

In the last few days, we've had a number of new members posting something along the lines of "Hello friends, I'm new to this forum". I suspect each of these is an automated process intended to create usernames for later spam. Searching Google for the exact phrase they are posting yields identical posts at other unrelated message boards. I'm banning them as I find them and deleting the posts.

If you are a real person and posted one of these kinds of messages, please private message me and I'll take care of it.

The funny part was the folks welcoming 'em to the board! I noticed two with the identical message and I figured that it was bogus. Scammers and spammers on the Internet, imagine that!

Oh the horror, the horror!

I moderate another board and came accross another bogus bot poster you should probably be aware of. These bot spammers were accessing the board archives and selecting an old post. They would then re-post this old post with a few links tagged on under the name. It took me a couple of days before i realized that i was reading a lot of new posts that were very familiar (i actually noticed because i went back to look for a previous answer i had give to the same post).

RJT.

Thanks for the heads up RJT. I'll be watching for that one.
