Other Players at Table

I need opnions. My father inlaw and myself got into a heated discussion about the other players at his blackjack table when he plays. He claims that when other players at his table make stupid plays ie: do not follow perfect strategy, causes him to loose. I say no way, just because an unwarranted hit caused him to catch a 10 that hand nad bust does not mean it did not help you win the next 10 hands. He claims all good players leave tables with poor players for the same reason. I claim it is just superstition, not based in fact. Am I wrong.
