Default internet filter

I was wondering what peoples opinions are on a Proxy filter at work?? Should your work place a filter on what content you see on the internet?? I am at work as I post this, but have to go around the filter. If I try coming here just normally then I get "site blocked: gambling".

If you are a bored hot dog vendor it doesnt matter much, unless you have hungry customers wating.

why does your company have a filter in the first place?
If its their time, and their hardware, then they should be able to dictate how it gets used.

i understand that they are providing the internet service and they have the right to filter what is viewed, but on the other hand if I am on break and want to go play say Chess @ yahoo - what's the matter with that?? But I'm blocked and can't. I can understand porn or other offensive material but why games, chat, dating websites, etc??? Things that aren't offensive. I think as long as you are getting your work done you should be able to do what you want on the net, but then again how many people abuse their internet privages - probably a lot.

Why not try logging on the the Zen Zone directly. After all, it's a "religious" sight. Once you're there, you're in like Flynn. If you have trouble at that point just claim religious persecution then Zg and his lawyers will take care of the rest. Why hell, after all is said and done you'll probably end up owning the whole company!

Cyberslacking- Don’t Worry, You’re Not the Only One

How many times can you remember yourself perusing Facebook or updating your MySpace profile when you had an urgent assignment due the very next day?
If you are unable to come up with a solid number to answer this question (because the number of times has been so great), you may be what is commonly known as a “Cyberslacker”.
Don’t panic!
According to Trendhunter.com, a recent survey done by Salary.com concluded that 6 out of every 10 workers openly admits to wasting time at work. The same survey indicates that 34% of these people use the Internet as their main tool to procrastinate.

That's why I have dialup at my office. We have very little use for Internet access, and the slow speed discourages surfing. Had one person resort to playing solitaire because she was so frustrated with the Dialup!
