Beyond Counting by James Grosjean
BEYOND COUNTING for sale cheap!!!
This is my first post here; I have never posted on forums in the past. I hope this does not scream SPAM because I really thought you guys would want to know that I'm putting James Grosjean's Beyond Counting up for auction on Ebay with a very low starting bid so everyone gets a fair shot at it. I've gently copied any pages I need for reference, but the book is in like new condition. I've never sold anything on Ebay before, so although I plan to list it on Friday, 12-10-05 at 7 p.m. PST, it could turn out more complex than I think, in which case it will start on Sunday at the same time.
I haven't played since Peter Giles (my husband) died in 1998. (If you don't remember Peter, look in the preface and index of Wong's Blackjack Secrets.) I hope people remember him as I do, a brilliant but humble man of great integrity and charm. I'm totally out of touch, so I could use some advice. The closest casinos to me are in Shreveport - are there any good games there? God only knows how much I have missed.
Thanks, Mindliver.

Not spam at all. Grosjean's BC is tough to find these days, so a copy appearing on EBay is news in the blackjack community. Please come back and post a link once your auction is up and running.
While your auction may have a low starting bid, I expect you'll see a nice dollar amount as the winning bid. The last few copies that have been sold on EBay have gone for several hundred dollars each. Maybe $800 I think? Not bad for a book that retailed for $40.
I'm not parting with my copy though, even for $800!

You asked about Shreveport. I understand that Sams Town (formerly Hollywood) is cutting the 6 decks pretty deep.

can someone please tell what is so great in this book that it's going for $400-$500 I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, I just can't find out much about it. Is the information in it that good?

Grosjean's book includes in-depth analysis of lots of games, including blackjack, 3-card poker, craps. There is even a section about beating the Big Six wheel, normally considered one of the worst games on the casino floor.
Most of the information focuses on hole-carding plays, but the book really drives home the point that there are a lot of ways to get an edge out there.
James is working on a new edition, and you can also read some articles at his site, here: http://www.beyondcounting.com
For example, his article 'Beyond Coupons' will tell you some very interesting things about using match plays or promo chips. If you haven't seen this article, I bet you'll never guess the best ways to use coupons.

Just thought I'd look back and check the results of mindliver's auction. Her book sold for $320. Not bad at all. Congrats!
