Robotrip. What the hell is that? Sounds like a ripoff of a bad 80's movie, doesn't it? Well, according to the Urban Dictionary, it's something much different:

The act of getting high on cough syrup containing Dextromethorophan Hyrdobromide (DXM for short). Robitussin, a popular cough syrup abused, contains DXM, therefore, it is called a "robotrip"

"Last night I robotripped my brain away. I was singing and dancing and eating cookies with Big Bird and his pal Snuffleupagus and then I talked to Edgar Allen Poe for an hour or so. Wow, what a great robotrip."

According to the Center for Substance Abuse Research at the University of Maryland (CESAR), DXM taken in high doses can cause powerful psychedelic effects ranging from altered perception of time, space and color to visual hallucination and complete disassociation from one's body. It can also result in, among other things, panic attacks, seizures, comas and, in rare cases, overdose and death.

Actually, the Vicks 44 DXM tastes similar to but better than Jagermiester. DXM is a psychedelic disassociative with effects similar to nitrous oxide and ketamine. zg

Just be very careful if you're going to do that, that the only active ingredient is DXM. If it has acetaminophen in it too, drink a few bottles and you'll have about a week to live. Expectorant, and you'll be vomiting and possibly choking.

i know a lot about robotripping, triple c's, lean, etc.. what u wanna know.. robotripping is done ONLY with "cough and cold" NOT "cough cold flu"/nasal/etc medicine.. dextromethorophan is the cough suppressant that makes u trip.. triple c's aka coricidin cough and cold is cough medicine for people with high blood pressure and its very popular, but the problem is there is another ingredient in this that ****s you up bad, and i dont mean gets you high, i mean it hurts your brain and can kill you if you take enuf so stay away from these "easy to take pills" and drink the 4oz of robotussin you baby (besides if you must take pills, take dexalone which is, you guessed it, "pure" dxm.. lean is promethazine w/ codeine, and it is what all the rappers drink, it contains no cough suppressant (DeXtroMethorophan) but rather codeine and something else that is similiar to a cough suppresant that also gets you high, and it is very expensive as its Rx.. i was never able to get my hands on ecstacy, but i was told from others that it is like heroin and robotripping combined with hornyness.. anybody on this forum over the age of 40 who did not do drugs in their day, you may be shocked, but this is what people under 21 do these days, its common, so dont say something retarded like "cough medicine? thats likes sniffing glue" because its nothing like that.. also, do you know how much you have to take to trip? one of the small 4 oz bottles, thats it.. and any of you that have had a cold/flu for a few days, you know you can go thru one of those 4 oz bottles in 2-3 days normally.. the feeling is extremely euphoric and lasts about 3 hours after it kicks in..

of all the drugs i have done in my life, which includes heroin, i would have to say robotripping is the most fun, and the best experience.. it doesnt really make you feel good, its just fun as hell.. i remember days where my friends and i would all take it and then take some razor scooters to a shopping center when it was rainy out.. boy was that fun.. damn i miss my childhood

You are right about the Tylenol - must be a variety without. But the Guaifenesin (expectorant) causes no problem. zg

I took DXM once by drinking cough medicine. I only took enough to reach the 3rd platue though. Lately I read on Erowid how at the 4th platue you experience trips to other worlds and encounter entities and have out of body experiences and ESP phenomina. This make me want to do it again but take 2 bottles instead of just one. I was wondering about other peoples experiences with DXM at the 4th platue.

Two bottles didn't get me there. Ultimately I'd rather do an IM of Ketamine - precise, reliable, guaranteed. zg

Dudes (and dudettes). Where have you been? People were drinking cough medicine .... Robitussin (tm) being the one of choice..... back inthe 1970's... at least from what I can remember.

Quite a trip, but could be crazier and less predictable that the preferred LSD or the mellower Mescaline. Some folks tipped on whatever was at hand. Generally the Robotrippers of the day were a bit younger and less able to get the better stuff than older "hippies" of the day.

Some say when Robo came out as a replacement for codeine based cough meds of the day, that people who got high on that (now hydrocodone and oxycododone being the opiate pills of choice) gave the Robitussin a try and found a new experience.


By the way: ABSOLUTELY avoid ingesting too much of ANY meds with Tylenol (acetaminophen). Something over 4000MG (that's about 6-7 Extra strength tylenol or 60-7 hydrocodone 10/650 or many cold meds) in 24 hours can lead to catastrophic liver failure and death unless one gets IMMEDIATE medical treatment.
