The Men Who Stare at Goats

Video Exclusive: Crazy Rulers Of The World
Three years in the making, Jon Ronson’s Crazy Rulers of the World explores the apparent madness at the heart of US military intelligence. With first-hand access to the leading players in the story, Jon Ronson examines the extraordinary - and plain bizarre - national secrets at the core of George W Bush's war on terror. The three-part series begins with The Men Who Stare at Goats, which charts the history of a secret US Army unit founded in 1979 - the First Earth Battalion. The programme uncovers the startling truth about this unit's involvement with paranormal activities that defy all known accepted military practice, including mind reading, out of body experiences and ‘thought-death’ experiments carried out on goats at Fort Bragg. In programme two, Jon Ronson reveals how the New Age movement of the 1980s has influenced interrogation at Guantanamo Bay and in post-war Iraq. The final episode looks into the military's involvement with remote viewing and mind control experiments.

Oh man I was just kind of searching the forums and found this old post. Sounds really interesting. The links don't work anymore so I hope I didn't miss much. Darn.

Look for access here. IF Media Underground is inactive, you may have to download a bit-torrent player. zg

Operation Often: Satanism in the CIA
This operation was based on Dr. Cameron's earlier research into the supernatural. Operaton Often was going to go further, exploring the world of black magic. In Dr. Gottlieb's mission statement the intention was to "harness the forces of darkness and challenge the concept that the inner reaches of the mind are beyond reach. The project will aim to create a new kind of psycho-civilized human being." Operation Often was soon deep into demonology. In April 1972, an approach was made to the monsignor in charge of exorcisms for the Catholic archdiocese of New York. He flatly refused to cooperate. Buckley, still a devout Catholic, found himself surrounded by a "mysterious and magical vortex in an agency that was supposed to deal in facts and predictions based upon them, that corner of the CIA which Gottlieb had set aside for his work with the Devil was an inner black hole from which came the constant cries 'There is no God! The cosmic deity is all!' XXX

Men Who Stare At Goats is now a movie with George Clooney
This Men Who Stare At Goats is now a movie with George Clooney -
(based on the book below and the documentary above
and the creation of the Army's remote viewing squad)
Men Who Stare At Goats
TRAILER(2min) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhNMyXgniZY
Synopsis - A reporter, trying to lose himself in the romance of war after his marriage fails, gets more than he bargains for when he meets a special forces agent who reveals the existence of a secret, psychic military unit whose goal is to end war as we know it. The founder of the unit has gone missing and the trail leads to another psychic soldier who has distorted the mission to serve his own ends.
George Clooney stars in 'The Men Who Stare at Goats.' He plays a psychic member of the U.S. Army's First Earth Battalion, a military unit that uses paranormal powers (and trains by stopping goats' hearts just by looking at them).
Sound far-fetched? The movie is based on a book of the same name Jon Ronson wrote about the US military's covert paranormal activities over the past three decades and their connection with psychological control techniques used to interrogate terror suspects. In the exclusive clip below, you'll see excerpts from the film and Ronson and other experts discuss paranormal military programs.
'The Men Who Stare At Goats' opens November 6. Its all-star cast includes Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey.
Actors : George Clooney, Ewan McGregor , Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges
Director : Grant Heslov

The Men Who Stare at Goats: the power of psychic spying
A new film about psychic warfare is based on its use during the Cold War, but paranormal powers are still being harnessed for murder investigations today. Florence Waters meets one of Britain’s leading professional remote viewers to find out whether we all have untapped psychic powers.
Published: 2:21PM GMT 04 Nov 2009
The sign on the door said ‘Remote Viewing workshop’, which didn’t give much away. It might as well have read, ‘Please abandon your logic here’.
Inside was an ordinary office meeting room, with a smiley, professional briefcase-carrying businessman preparing a training session. The contents of the workshop were less predictable. They were based on a training manual written by the military in the late 1970s, in order to train soldiers to be able to harness their paranormal powers so that they would be able to spy on the enemy, using telepathy.
I had come to the workshop to get a better understanding of the historical events behind this autumn’s comedy, The Men Who Stare at Goats, which is based on a true story about the US military. The film is inspired by the events laid out in journalist Jon Ronson’s extensively researched book by the same name about a group of soldiers, who allegedly called themselves ‘The Jedi’, and who were trained to be able to fight wars in esoteric and “non-violent” ways. According to the book, their methods and objectives included learning to live off nuts, learning to be invisible, deterring the enemy with ‘sparkly eyes’, walking through walls and, ultimately, killing goats by staring at them. At least two veteran soldiers claim to have accomplished this sophisticated final stage of the training.

I first posted the documentary nearly 4-yrs ago here, and only just now did I realize that its
based on the work of our friend Jim Channon, whome we know through the late Marilyn Ferguson >>
VIDEO(6min)- FIRST EARTH BATTALION The Real Story By Jim Channon The story's based around the US Army's semi-mythical First Earth Battalion, which apparently investigated psychic powers and non-lethal weapons during the late 1970s and 1980s, after Lt. Col. Jim Channon went on a fact-finding mission through the hippy communes of California and came back advocating ginseng regulators, divining tools, omni-directional thought and colourful uniforms so that "individuals will shine through the conformity. Groovy dude.
They also had a goat lab at Fort Bragg, where for 25 years soldiers tried to kill goats by staring at them.
Allegedly, it worked once, but we suspect that had more to do with the goats
by that point probably being quite old.

I have seen this movie advertised on Cable T.V. THIS WEEK.
I cannot recall, but I think that it was Showtime or H.B.O. or possibly FX
It appeared to me to be a comedy.

Watch the documentary first, or you may never.
The new movie spoils it somewhat as a cheeky cliche of the real thing zg
