Default My one exchange with B.J. Holway

Greetings,

I enjoy reading this board, even though I don't post much on BJ boards these days. Given what has been posted here recently, I thought my single exchange with B.J. Holway may be of interest. I am offering this not as evidence of malice or intent, just as an exchange of possible interest to those following the Cipher threads.

B. J. Holway seemed like a nice man when he wrote, very personable.

Here is his email (in part) and my reply.

Hello Professor Jacobson:

My name is B. J. Holway, better known on the Internet as Cipher ... Should you find yourself in the central San Joaquin Valley (Visalia) your welcome at the Cipher Lab anytime or if you care to join in some of my daily sessions through the Cipher Labs in Australia, Great Britain and Canada via Skype you're welcome as well.

Have a good one.

B. J. Holway
My reply (in part):

Greetings B.J.

I don’t really understand your offer to me. Are you asking me to visit you at your “lab” in Visalia? I would be happy to do so as part of my consulting business if there is something you would like me to work on for you.

...

With best wishes,

--Eliot
I can see now, in retrospect, how my offering to work for a fee to test his work may not have been what he wanted. I never heard back from him.

Photo is Yosemite.

Just to bring you up to date...

I don't play at all any more, and never was very good as an advantage player. I have three problems -- (1) I don't like personal secrecy, (2) I don't like being in casinos, and (3) I don't like playing games. That said, there's still plenty to do.

I still am working mostly as a game analyst. After two years, a couple of games I've worked on are now in casinos ("Three Card Blackjack" at the Augustine in CA and in Washington State, and "21 to the River" just opened at the Hard Rock -- another game, "Tennessee Hold'em" is in Canada). I have about 30 games under my belt now.

I also have been working as an online casino auditor (I took over Michael Shackleford's "Certified Fair Gambling" business in 2006). This has been interesting work as well.

So, keep up the good work all, and I'll see you down the road sometime,

--Eliot

Thumbs up

Hopefully that road leads to a bar where I can buy you an adult beverage.

I pray that you will be able to bring "Canada Hold'em" to Tennesee some day.

Also, I applaud any efforts you and the Wiz bring towards adding more transparency to online casinos.

The thing I don't like about these games is that the casinos remove beatable games in order to offer these games. Are any of these games beatable?

Just a small rant from an AP with one less table to play.
