Default Is my CRT dying?

If the display on my monitor "twitches" every once in a while, does that mean I should be shopping for a new monitor? My monitor is about 8 years old.

Bonus question: Could viewing this monitor be causing my headaches, which I almost never get?

Gateway's used to have Degaussing buttons on the them way back...well 8 years ago in fact

Read this, the section on monitors and see if this is what you are experiencing. It would be normal if that is the case.

Regarding the bonus question, how old are you?
If you're 40ish or older, farsightedness may be kicking in, causing strain at the CRT and w/reading.

Default Thanks to all for the replies…

toastblows: From what I can tell, it doesn’t seem to be a degaussing problem.

jack, jackson: Thanks for the link to TechSpot, although I don’t think I’ll post there. I just thought I’d run the question by the people here.

It seems like no matter what question anybody has, someone here will know something!

21forme: I’m well past 40. So far, I’ve been able to get by with drugstore reading glasses, which I always use for reading, and sometimes for the computer.

Yes, the CRT monitor could be going. If I had to guess, the "twitching" is probably the CRT gun misfiring. You're catching a missed refresh or two.

If you do end up upgrading to an LCD, make sure you go out and look at the LCD you're thinking of buying. Some LCDs are pure fuzzy crap. You're best to see it in action, and drop an extra $20 or $30 to get a better model.

But they don't run the CV software.
