The way to end the domination of politics by big money interests, such as oil companies, is to make it illegal for anyone but individuals to contribute money to candidates' campaigns, and put a relatively low ceiling on what can be given, including by the candidates themselves. Candidates waste money that could be put to better use on their campaigns, and success always favors those with money to burn. It's not at all conducive to selecting the best person for the job.
