Default OOOps Former Soviet Union, Sorry About Afghanistan!

I don't think many know, why did the Soviets (Russians) invade Afghanistan? Sure it was perhaps trying to get close to a warm water seaport and perhaps the oil of the region but there is a little known reason!

Afghanistan was a socialist/communist country with Russian advisors in development and military. Well as part of the development of Afghanistan Soviet personel were starting schools and handing out pamphlets about educating children and Allah forbid girls! Well the Islamic Fascists caught them in the street beheaded them and then broke into the compound of the Russian personel and beheaded the families and carried their heads around on pikes. Supposedly on that day the Soviets decided to go into Afghanistan. So in response the Soviets entered Afghanistan and the civil war started. Remember, there was an Afghan army that fought on the Soviet side. The Soviets fought on the side of the government of Afghanistan.

There were several groups that we funded who fought the Soviets, one of the groups ( though I don't know if we directly funded ) was this group called the base (Al Quada) and had a leader named bin Laden!

Default To those who want to leave Afghanistan

We are in a similar situation to the Soviets in the 80s. We are fighting with the government against Islamic Fascists.

If we leave women and girls will not be educated, any Muslim who converts to Christianity will be murdered, other minority groups persecuted or killed, no free speach. So should we leave?

When we left before Al Quada ran wild!

Al Qaeda only attacked us because of our policy in the Middle East, not because they "hate freedom" as the Bush administration propagandizes. If we left Iraq and Afghanistan, the terrorists wouldn't have any further reason to attack us. Especially not if we started trading with them.

When we left before Al Quieda ran wild![/QUOTE]

When we left before? When did we leave before? After the Soviets withdrew, the country was devastated by civil war as each and every Warlord tried to carve out there own fiefdom. When a group of religious students crossed from Pakistan and began restoring order, they were viewed as being almost saviors. They ended the decade long civil war, then they imposed strict islamic law. After that they invited Al Quieda in and gave them space for their training bases. The Taliban and Al Quieda are far from natural allies. Its just that there now common enemy outweighs the differences between the two groups.
