looks like there is hope in internet gambling coming back. If you read the washington post article (2nd link) in there it state "Antigua, home to some big online gaming sites, objected through the World Trade Organization to the U.S. crackdown on Internet gambling. The WTO ruled in December that the United States must pay the island nation $21 million for violating trade rules." Wow we now have to PAY to not gamble. How stupid is that? Just let us gamble online and pay that way.
(everyone knows the real reason for the crack down - taxes. Feds don't get a cut. I would guarantee if gambling winnings by US players were taxed the feds wouldn't give a rip if you gambled online)
The ban is just on sports, unless you live in the wrong state.
here is what i found on that:
Only two states -- Utah and Hawaii -- have no forms of legalized gambling. Four states -- Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and South Dakota -- prohibit all forms of Internet gambling. Three others -- Nevada, Louisiana and Oregon -- prohibit most forms of Internet gambling but allow some online betting, such as for horse racing.

I'd expect the ban to have been started by / lobbied for by the US casino operators - after all, it's their businesses most likely to be negatively impacted by US players playing elsewhere....
The Fed can be swayed of course, because less players in US casinos does mean less tax take. Logically, at least.
