Default Dealer Cheating

I've been reading a few books, getting general info and BS before choosing a count. The latest book was 'The World's Greatest Blackjack Book' by Humble and Cooper.

They often mention dealer cheating and dedicate a number of pages to the subject. Being honest, I skipped most of their casino/game hunting pages as the book is pushing 30 years old (although revised in 2000). Is this something that still goes on to any extent, or is old style vegas? Other than Vegas I've only ever came across shoe games which seem pretty unlikely to come across dealers who cheat. I'm just wondering whether to ignore that chapter for my next Vegas trip or not.

You can pretty much ignore that chapter of the book. There are still cheating dealers but they usually don't target the players. They usually prefer to rip off the casino instead of some tourist betting $10 per hand. It's always good to know what to look for, but I doubt you'll ever find anything going on in a major casino.

Unlikely at any place owned by a corporation. Remote possibility at an Indian reservation.

CBJN has flagged a number of Wisconsin Indian joints as possible cheaters. I suspect the offense is pulling 10s or Aces from the shoe.

jimbiggs has flagged a number of southern California casinos as cheaters as well. They pull the 10s. Leave the aces which are harder to bust with an overabundance of small cards.

No way to prove it of course, but I have put some time into this investigation and have enough data to convince myself.

That's pretty much what I guessed. Stick to the main casinos and have nothing to worry about.

As an ex-magician (one of my part time roles) I can see that card cheating by dealers is possible in the HAND dealt games (i.e. double deck / single deck hand pitched)... but very unlikely in the REPUTABLE operators / licensed premises of Nevada, Atlantic City etc. I've never come across any that I've been aware of in my 15 years of playing.

Shoe dealt games are near impossible to have cheating on these days.

The biggest cheats are of course the casinos themselves - and as we've debated in these forums before, those continuous shuffler shoes. :-)

Lame, ridiculous statement, from someone who says CSMs are beatable. zg
